Hassan Whiteside And Brandon Knight Will Continue Their Careers In Puerto Rico - Fadeaway World Skip to main content

Hassan Whiteside and Brandon Knight have headed over to Puerto Rico to continue their basketball careers.

Both Whiteside and Knight have signed with Piratas de Quebradillas in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional, the top tier of Puerto Rican professional basketball, for the 2023 season.

The team announced the signings on Tuesday, with the duo having their first practice session later in the day.

They both hadn't received much interest from NBA teams, and it was clear that it was time to look elsewhere to play professional basketball. Piratas de Quebradillas have been in existence since 1926 and had Phil Jackson as their head coach in 1984 and 1987, just a few years before he would go on to coach Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

Whiteside And Knight's NBA Careers

Whiteside last played in the NBA with the Utah Jazz in the 2021-22 season, where he averaged 8.2 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 1.6 BPG while backing up Rudy Gobert. If this is indeed the end of his NBA career, he'd have finished with career averages of 12.6 PPG, 10.8 RPG, and 2.2 BPG. Whiteside made All-Defensive Second Team in 2016 and twice led the league in blocks. He also led the league in rebounds in 2016 and ended up earning $104.7 million in 10 seasons in the NBA, as per Spotrac.

Knight, meanwhile, was last on an NBA roster with the Dallas Mavericks on a 10-day contract in the 2021-22 campaign. He played just five games in total for the Mavs, averaging 6.4 PPG, 1.6 RPG, and 1.6 APG. Knight enjoyed some productive spells with the Pistons, Bucks, and Suns earlier on, but was never the same after tearing his ACL in 2017. He finishes with career averages of 14.0 PPG, 3.9 APG, and 3.1 RPG and earned $79.4 million in his 10 seasons, as per Spotrac.

Hopefully, both of them go on to have as much fun as Dwight Howard seems to have had in Taiwan.
