This live club recording from 2008 or 2009 is a decent mix of older more familar Mandel tunes with rleatively recent tunes and I beleive an old Quicksilver Messenger tune (Mona) thrown in. But no hip-hop/rap crap, so no worries there. Also, there is a mix between instrumental and vocal tunes, which would be expected. Two vocalists are on the CD, neither anything special, but adequate. The sound quality is fine for a live recording, which you would expect from a small club type venue/setting; and the band sounds pretty tight from an ensemble standpoint. I guess the reason I can't rate any higher than 3 stars is all the babbling that goes on throughout the CD, and I'm not just talking about between songs, which would be okay and expected for a 'live' recording, but rather during the songs. It sort of messes with the flow or feel of the music at times. I guess these guys REALLY wanted the audience to know (REPEATEDLY) who was playing that night, as the credits are REPEATED throughout, on pretty much every other song, during the songs. It gets so bad at one point during a song, credits are recognized for the executive producer, the sound engineer or recorder, etc.
I have been a Harvey Mandel fan since the 60's. This album is so disappointing. How many times must you tell us who all is in the band and why does it have to be during the song. These artist have so much talent, but with Harvey stepping all over the songs, it ruins the song. Just can't sit back and enjoy. This is one I wish I could get my money back on. Sorry Harvey, Love you, but this one sucks.
