FTD WHERE ARE YOU?

Post by steve in sc4 »

It has been 3 months since the last release was announced. Maybe the EJ retirement rumors were true and FTD is done are maybe they are just taking some time to regroup and figure out what to do?

They weren't about Ernst Jørgensen.

A few items are coming down the pike, I would wager relatively soon.

What did you want produced or expect FTD to do for the rest of 2024 ?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they released a session set based around the 1967/68 recordings. Then two or three more soundboards plus a vinyl soundtrack which is likely to be dependant on outtakes available. So they might have to jump Girl Happy and go straight to Harum Scarum, Frankie & Johnny or Paradise.

But I’m not chomping at the bit for new announcements and it’s certainly not the end of the world because an announcement hasn’t been made for three months. How did we survive back in the 60’s when we had to make do with a couple of soundtracks and two or three singles each year.

Mate, what about a FTD covering all of the Mono 45's , two CD package that came out as he wanted, from 1960 - 1971 or 1972 - whatever the final mono 45 was? Although i concede there's probably more of us that would favour a mono-to-stereo 50's product rather than a mono only chronicle box.

I think if a decision is made to do "mono to stereo’ releases that they are more likely to be Sony mainstream to attract a bigger audience.

The things I mentioned were based around what I consider would be likely releases as opposed to what I would like FTD to release. So a box set of original mono singles would be a good choice as something different which would go a lot further than the two Gold Award hit sets. Now whether such a set should or would include mono singles from the 50’s is up for debate as to the worthiness vs price factor of their inclusion.

However the fact that there has never been any indication of interest in releasing the aforementioned box sets under the Classic Album series may suggest that they do not have the actual mono mixed masters for that material and would not want to use basic bounce downs of current stereo masters unless that is what they simply did for many of the mono singles especially the later ones.

But I think we are getting to the point where FTD do not have many options on what to release next as the well gets dryer following each new release so maybe instead of the more regular announcements that we have been used to, the gap will expand, which could be a horrifying prospect for a few members on here. Do I detect depression tablets at the ready.

I think in the late 70’s and 80’s, we had basically accepted that there was unlikely to be anything forthcoming on a regular basis. But in the last couple of decades, we have been spoilt and now a few are going into some kind of depressive panic mode because no announcements are being made on a regular quarterly basis.

Calm down, guys. The latest FTD releases are still being sold and I don't think FTD will announce another complete session, after all Blue Hawaii is still available at the dealers. The announcement of a new complete session could disrupt sales of Blue Hawaii.
I don't think we'll have any news until June.

I have been to see my GP to get a prescription for tablets to deal with my anxiety.

Is Roger retiring?
Is Ernst retiring?
Will there be a mono box set?
Will there be another sessions set? If so, what?
Will there be a Memphis set?
When's the next MRS release?
What have Memphis Mansion got up their sleeve?
Will there be another Madison release?

I can't sleep. I can't eat.

I don't mind the slight delay -- it provides me an opportunity to go through some of the most recent releases more thoroughly. And pull some out some of the old FTD gems. I have been playing Fame and Fortune from 2000 a lot in recent weeks.

That is a great CD for sure! Fantastic artwork too. I played another old CD recently - the Bilko classic "American Crown Jewels". Like everyone else, I look forward to new releases, but it's also important to remember AND PLAY the great CDs we already own.

On another note, I'd like to say that I have always enjoyed reading your posts here on FECC. Don't leave!! :D
