      Critics Consensus

Hard Sun's heady mix of narrative and visual flourishes buckle under a surfeit of clichés that ultimately weigh it down and leave the show a muddled mess.

Audience Member (Contains spoilers for the last episode.) The apocalyptic storyline was intriguing and I loved the MI5 character stalking the leads. But as the show wore on I found myself hoping for the two narcissistic lead characters and the homicidal son of one of the lead characters to meet their downfall. I'm not surprised the show didn't continue. It's hard to have a successful show with hate-able leads that make you root for the villain. And I was frankly creeped out by the chase scene at the end...a white man and a white woman hunting down a black woman for the purpose of executing her. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Angst-riddled investigators and their personal lives destroys the interesting main concept. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I hope someone will renew this show so it can finish its story arc. The writing is tight; the acting is good; the plot is compelling. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It an interesting story told in a bizzare way. I will be back for season 2 if the tv executives bring it back. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Love the show. Hope there will be a second season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member THIS SHOW IS SO BAD, MY CAPSLOCK BROKE. Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times It is as stylish as it is unpleasant, and there are some well-staged action scenes, but overall, the series is loud and tiring, like spending an hour in an MRI machine. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Maureen Ryan Variety Hard Sun contains so many contrivances and overwrought moments that the commitment of its cast and the potential of its premise are largely squandered. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire To make up for the lack of substance, the cast is asked to overact. Rated: C- Mar 7, 2018 Full Review Ben Dowell Radio Times Well, this is certainly a flawed show. It does seem a little odd to take the world to the brink of destruction and expect us to care about much else. Apr 11, 2019 Full Review Kiera Allen Daily Journal (Kankakee, IL) This series just doesn't hit the mark. Aug 26, 2018 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Cross is a reliable storyteller, and while Sturgess is serviceable as Hicks, Deyn is a fascinating watch as Renko.
