HBO Max is ready to join the streaming wars in a couple of weeks, and here’s everything available at launch. The world of streaming keeps expanding, and with the coronavirus pandemic, subscription platforms have seen a bigger flow of users, and some have even changed their schedules to bring forward content that was originally set to arrive months later. Meanwhile, others have been preparing for their big launch, as is the case of HBO Max.

Back in October 2018, WarnerMedia announced plans to bring an “over-the-top streaming service” that would include content from HBO, The CW, and more. The platform was officially announced in July 2019 and its name was revealed to be HBO Max. The platform was initially projected to launch in late 2019, just like one of its biggest competitors, Disney+, but it was later changed to spring 2020, though a specific date wasn’t revealed. Now, HBO Max has everything set to join the world of streaming on May 27, and it’s bringing a good amount of content with it.

HBO Max was already confirmed to be the home of fan-favorite shows like Friends, Game of Thrones, and Gossip Girl, as well as most films from DC’s movie universe and a lot of titles from TNT, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, and more. Like most streaming services, HBO Max will have original content for all ages, and many of these will be available on day one. Here’s everything ready to stream at launch on HBO Max.

Love Life

Love Life HBO Max

This full-length scripted rom-com series stars Anna Kendrick and tells the journey from first love to last love and how the people that come to our lives along the way make us into who we are when we finally find the one. Love Life is also a new take on anthology series as each season will follow a different protagonist’s quest for love. Starring alongside Kendrick in season 1 are Zoë Chao, Peter Vack, Sasha Compere, and Lesley Manville. Love Life is created by Sam Boyd and produced by Lionsgate Television and Feigco Entertainment.

On The Record

On The Record HBO Max

On The Record is a documentary directed and produced by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, and tells the story of music executive Drew Dixon as she grapples with her decision to become one of the first women of color to come forward and publicly name music mogul Russell Simmons of sexual assault. The film also chronicles the story of other accusers, Sil Lai Abrams and Sheri Sher, while it explores the ways women of colors’ voices are often silenced and ignored when they allege sexual assault as well as the cultural forces that drive them to remain silent. On The Record premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

Legendary

Legendary trailer HBO Max

Legendary is a new type of competition series, in which voguing teams (a.k.a. “houses”) must showcase their sickening fashion in order to achieve a “legendary” status. The cast of Legendary includes MC Dashaun Wesley and DJ MikeQ, as well as celebrity judges Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Law Roach, Leiomy Maldonado, and Megan Thee Stallion. There’s music, there’s fashion, there’s dancing, and a lot of attitude.

Craftopia

Craftopia

Speaking of competition shows, Craftopia is one aimed for a younger audience (though obviously, anyone can enjoy it). Hosted and executive produced by YouTuber Lauren Riihimaki – an expert on DIY activities – Craftopia will see 9 to 15-year old contestants putting their imaginations and creativity to test through larger-than-life challenges, all to win $5000 dollars – and the Craftrophia, a very unique trophy.

Looney Tunes Cartoons

Looney Tunes Cartoons HBO Max

HBO Max is bringing a dose of nostalgia with a modern touch with Looney Tunes Cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and many other classic characters are back with updated looks and new adventures in 80 short episodes (11-minute long each). Looney Tunes Cartoons includes storylines from the past adapted for today’s audiences, as well as holiday-themed specials – it’s a whole package of animated fun for all ages.

The Not Too Late Show With Elmo

The Not Too Late Show With Elmo HBO Max

The one and only Elmo is getting his own late night talk show – though not too late because he has to go to bed. With the help of other Sesame Street characters like Cookie Monster and Count von Count, Elmo will welcome a variety of guests, such as John Mulaney, Blake Lively, The Jonas Brothers, and even fellow late-night host Jimmy Fallon. Of course, all this fun will happen before Elmo has to go to bed. After all, he’s still very young.
