Chelsea boss Graham Potter can raise transfer funds by offloading two World Cup stars

Chelsea boss Graham Potter can use two players featuring in the World Cup to boost his January transfer kitty.

World Cup 2022 briefing: Day 3

boss can raise money for his January transfer business by offloading stars Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. Both players are reportedly attracting interest from the with the American a target for  while the Moroccan has been attracting attention from since the summer.

Neither Pulisic nor Ziyech have really impressed during their spells at Stamford Bridge since they arrived at the club. The duo have regularly found themselves stuck on the bench, particularly this season, with Potter and former boss Thomas Tuchel favouring the likes of Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz in the Blues’ pecking order.

Pulisic has arguably been the better of the two, finding the net on 26 occasions in 133 appearances since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. A hat trick against Burnley in his first season at the club was a rare highlight as the American has had to be content with a place on the sidelines.

Ziyech has been even more troubled after joining from Ajax in 2020. He has failed to replicate the creativity he showed in the Eredivisie, scoring just 14 goals and providing 10 assists in 92 matches and has been heavily linked with a move away since the summer.

Now, Potter could take advantage in the interest from Italy in the duo with the Evening Standard reporting that Pulisic is a target for Juventus while Ziyech is a target for AC Milan. A move away for either player on loan or permanently would free up valuable funds for the former coach to reinvest in his current squad.

Chelsea have been linked with a host of names in the January transfer window with duo Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol among the most heavily rumoured. Recent reports have also linked the club with a left-field move for forward Leon Bailey who could end up replacing Ziyech or Pulisic.

Potter has also been linked with a raid on former club Brighton with Leandro Trossard and Moises Caicedo both believed to be on the radar. Midfield is a key area for strengthening with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante out of contract at the end of the season with the likes of and joining the Ecuadorian as a target for the position.

It remains to be seen if Ziyech or Pulisic will move on in the January transfer window but both players give Potter options to strengthen his hand in the transfer window.
