Serie A 2023/2024 Gameweek 33 Prediction

SportsBet

FRIDAY 19 APRIL 2024 (GMT +7)

Genoa vs Lazio

Lazio remain in contention to qualify for European football next season after they beat Salernitana 4-1 at home last week courtesy of Feliper Anderson’s brace and Matias Vecino and Gustav Isaksen’s goals. They are currently 8th and just two points away from the 6th position. This afternoon, they will travel to Luigi Ferraris to face the challenge of Genoa who is currently unbeaten in their last four games in the competition (W1 D3). Last time out, they held Fiorentina to a 1-1 draw at Artemio Franchi after Albert Guðmundsson’s first-half penalty was cancelled out by Jonathan Ikone’s second-half equaliser. Genoa won the most recent meeting with Lazio in Serie A 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season and they will be confident to get something from this game to continue their unbeaten run in the league. Their goal scorer from their last game against Fiorentina Albert Guðmundsson already has 13 goals collection to his name and he will be a threat to Lazio’s defence that has conceded 22 goals in 16 away games this season. The visitor will have one eye on the second leg of Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus on Tuesday and they will have to try to overturn a 0-2 deficit to progress to the final. It will be a big challenge for Igor Tudor’s side and it will be interesting to see how he will approach this game with that decisive semi-final contest looming in the background. Worryingly, Tudor will be without Ciro Immobile, Mattia Zaccagni, Luca Pellegrini, Matteo Guendouzi, Alessio Romagnoli, and Ivan Provedel in this game. So, his options to rotate his squad will be limited. Meanwhile, Genoa will miss the service of Alan Matturo, Vitinha, Ruslan Malinovskiy, and Junior Messias due to injury. The home side has recorded five draws in their last nine home games in Serie A (W2 L2) and I think they will add more draws to their collection after this match.

Prediction: 50 – 50

SATURDAY 20 APRIL 2024 (GMT +7)

Cagliari vs Juventus

Claudio Ranieri’s side's excellent run of form continues as they managed to hold the soon-to-be-crowned Serie A champion Inter Milan to a 2-2 draw on their visit to Giuseppe Meazza last week. Two goals from Eldor Shomurodov and Nicolas Viola ensured the spoils were shared in that game. It is worth noting that Cagliari has lost only one of their last eight games in Serie A (W3 D4) and with such momentum they will entertain Juventus at Unipol Domus this evening. Winning only one of their last six Serie A matches (D3 L2), Juventus will try to kick on another momentum before they face Lazio in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Tuesday. Massimiliano Allegri’s side is unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions (W2 D1) while keeping a clean sheet on each of the occasions. The visitor will also be encouraged by the fact that they have won 12 of their last 13 matches against Cagliari in Serie A (L1) and will try to keep that run going here. It will not be easy though as Cagliari is in good form at Unipol Domus where they are unbeaten in the last four matches there (W2 D2). However, Gaetano Oristanio, Andrea Petagna, Marco Mancosu and Leonardo Pavoletti will be on the sidelines for the home side. Ranieri will have to try to find solutions to their absences. As for the visitors, Moise Kean and Arkadiusz Milik will be assessed ahead of the kick-off. Cagliari will be a tough team to beat here and with Juventus’ current form and the semi-final of Coppa Italia coming up in the next few days, I believe a draw could be on the card here.

Prediction: 50 – 50

Empoli vs Napoli

Failing to beat Frosinone in their last match in Serie A hampered Napoli’s hope of qualifying for Europe next season. To make things worse, they also lost Mario Rui to a red card in that game and he will this visit to Empoli as a result. Francesco Calzona’s side is currently 7th and two points away from Atalanta at 6th but has played one more game than Gasperini’s side. They have to try to keep picking up three points from the remaining games to have a better chance of finishing in the European qualifying spot. Facing Empoli which has won only one of the last six Serie A games (L5) will be a good opportunity to redeem themselves after that disappointing draw over Frosinone. Moreover, Napoli is unbeaten in their last four games on the road in the league so Empoli has to be ready for a tough game here. The home side is fighting for their survival in Serie A at the moment as they are currently 17th in the league and just have a point lead over Frosinone at 18th. They are also the fewest-scoring team in Serie A at the moment with 25 goals scored from 32 games. Winning four of the last six matches against Napoli in Serie A (L2), Davide Nicola’s side will be determined to keep that positive record going here. With Napoli missing key defenders Mario Rui, Amir Rrahmani, and Mathias Oliveira, Empoli has a better chance to do it here. Meanwhile, the home side will remain without Tyronne Ebuehi here and he is set to be joined on the sideline by Emmanuel Gyasi due to suspension. Another close contest in Serie A this weekend but I think the visitor is my slight favourite to win this game.

Prediction: 45 – 55
