GT vs RCB Highlights, IPL 2024: Will Jacks 100 helps Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Gujarat Titans by 9 wickets

I think it was great hitting by them (Kohli and Jacks.) We need to come up with better plans in the next match, also need to execute them. When you are batting you can always think of scoring 15-20 runs more. We thought 200 was a good enough total for us, unfortunately it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to. We were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs, I think that was the turning point for us.

That was some hitting from Will Jacks against Rashid Khan. It seemed like the game would come down to 19th-20th over a while ago however, Jack had another idea. He just flicked a switch and boy it turned the game on its head in no time. RCB stay alive whereas this will be a heartbreaking loss for GT.

Will Jacks climbed onto Mohit Sharma and extracted 29 runs in that final over. That essentially must ensure RCB their second win of the campaign what a chase this has turned out to be from the Bengaluru boys. 

Noor has started after the time out and his poor day continues. The problem GT have is if their spinners are going for runs they do not have a seamer who can come in and change the course of the game. They have brought Spencer Joshnson to do it who is no where near the team

This is now unfolding quickly for GT. The wicket did grip a bit in the first innings but since the lights have been turned on the ball has been skidding on nicely onto the bat. Looks like GT has made an error in picking their combination and is 20 runs short of par score.

Noor has changed ends here for GT but he did bowl an expensive over. This is gripping away from GT quite quickly they need a flurry of wickets to get back into the game. At this point Gill has turned to his tweakers to do the job for him. 

Mohit Sharma has been brought back into the attack and he has had a poor game against Delhi Capitals and started poorly again today. Will Jacks did get hold of his slower ones and smacked him on both sides of the wickets to get boundaries. 

Virat Kohli cuts one through the point and gets to his 54th IPL 50. What a knock this has been from the RCB opener he has been holding this innings together from one end. However, the job is not done yet for him he will be hoping this to make a 100.

While Jacks is struggling to read the spinners Kohli has been pushing the ball in the gaps to get the runs flowing. Important passage of play this for RCB. Most importantly they need to make sure that they do get the regular flow of boundaries keep coming. 

Noor has been introduced into the attack and he bowled an expensive over first up. He did not look in good rhythm as he sprayed the ball all over the pitch which the RCB batters made full use of. This has been good batting from RCB.

Kohli is looking aggressive here he played some lovely lofted shots on either side of the wicket against Kishore to extract 15 runs in the final over. In the context of the game this has been an excellent powerplay for RCB they are par with the required rate. 

More spin from Titans it is Rashid Khan this time who has been introduced into the attack and bowled a semi-decent over. The wicket is not turning much but GT spinners are quite accurate and they do get through their overs quickly. 

Spin has been introduced by Shubman Gill and it pays rewards for him. Faf who looked in good touch chipped one and mid-wicket running from the deep took a lovely catch. The RCB skipper would be considering himself unlucky.

Another expensive over from Titans is Omarzai this time who has been taken to the cleaners. Faf du Plessis is looking in good form today he has played a couple of lovely shots if he can get his innings underway today it would be great for RCB going forward.

Sandeep Warrier took the new ball from the other end and it was a poor one from him. He sprayed the ball all over the pitch bowled a few wides and conceded needles boundaries. Also, he was not able to get the same swing that Omarzai could get. 

Omarzai has taken the new ball for Gujarat Titans and he did get some swing. The natural lights are still in effect so no artificial lights yet. It was heartwarming to see that Omarzai was able to get a good lateral moment. 

First time I have come out to bat 4 (in IPL.) Before the game Ashish Nehra told me I might bat at 4, so was prepared in the bus itself. The first over spun a bit, the pitch dried up. The wicket is spinning but 200 is a good score. I just had to step out and hit straight. Have been working in the nets with our coaches. Good to play along with him (Sai Sudharsan), we have a good relationship. I think so, 200 is enough. It's important to bowl well and restrict them.

That's the end of the innings. It was an innings lot has happened but in a very uniform manner. Yes, it did start a bit slowly however, as the innings went on pace picked up and sustained the same momentum till the 20th over to take Titans to 200. At this point it is hard to know if it will be enough we will be back with second innings action. 

Sudharsan was dropped in the previous over from Siraj. After playing a scoop shot Sudharsan tried to whack the ball on the leg-side which took the edge and flew in the air and Will Jacks who struggled to reach their eventually dropped the catch. 

That is an excellent over from GT's perspective. Sudharsan smashed Green for three boundaries. They need more of these big overs now because the way scores have been this tournament it is not even a par score from GT at this point. 

Mohammed Siraj aborted his SIU celebration midway through the routine. But he was ecstatic after producing a pearler to disarray the stumps of Shahrukh Khan. But there was little doubt he was ecstatic. The seamer has been underwhelming this season, bereft of his usual energy and pace. He has struggled with his lines and has wasted the new-ball. Perhaps, the Shahrukh wicket would spark a revival. It was undisputedly his best ball of the series. The ball kept swerving low and sharp into his legs. The batsman would not have expected the movement in the air,  but Siraj was extracting reverse swing, helped no doubt by the dryness in the air and the roughness of the outfield. And when it begins to reverse swing, Siraj becomes a lethal proposition. It was not the perfect yorker, but the inward movement sufficed to outfox Shahrukh. The wicket was timely, as Shahrukh was firmly taking the game away from RCB.

10 from third Maxwell over. David Miller has walked into the middle. GT would be looking to somewhere near that 200-mark with their current score. If RCB can restrict them to around 180 they would consider it is a win in the first innings.

Siraj bowls a yorker to clean the stumps of Sharukh. Excellent delivery from the bowler to get rid of the set batter. Meanwhile, Sudharsan has gone past his half-century. Back-to-back 50s for the GT number three what a time to get into some form. 

Swapnil Singh has been brought back into the attack and he delivered a good after. He bowled wide outside the off-stump making the batters reach out for the ball. The tactic of using more spinners in the line up seems to have backfired for RCB.

With a thunderous six Sharukh gets to his half-century. This is his maiden 50 in his IPL career. Excellent innings from the batter when the GT innings were going nowhere he came in to give that added impetus in the innings. 

This has been the excellent passage of play from GT. Since Sharukh has walked into the middle he has injected momentum into the innings. He has played freely and picked his boundary options nicely. Sudharsan too has been playing a few more shots now.

The tournament has been something of a six-hitting festival. As many as 814 maximums were struck before the encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. But the spectators had to wait for the fifth ball of the eighth over to behold the game’s first six. That is when Sai Sudharsan shoveled Karn Sharma through mid-wicket. Not that there was any lack of intent from the Titans part. Wriddhiman Saha tried, but couldn’t connect, Shubman Gill’s best attempt ended in the swooping palms of Cameron Green. You could argue that Titans do not possess an unbridled hitter like Abhishek Sharma or Jake Fraser-McGurk. But primarily it was down to the asphyxiating lines that RCB bowlers probed. Slower balls and yorkers helped, as did a pitch where the balls sometimes bounced sluggishly. One six, though, brought two others in quick succession,  but just three hits over fence in nine overs seemed an anachronism.

RCB continues with spin after the break and Karn Sharma has bowled a semi-decent over. The wicket seems to be getting better as the evening goes on. GT need to start attacking the bowlers a bit more now under lights the ball might skid on nicely for RCB.

Sharukh has walked into the middle and GT needs to build a partnership here. Faf deployed Maxwell for his second over which the Sharukh took apart. The problem GT have at the moment is not only do they are losing wickets but are also not scoring at good pace.

Glenn Maxwell has been brought into the attack and he strikes. He scalped Shubman Gill who tried to whack the ball down the ground and up the ante however, was caught near the boundary rope. RCB is being chipping away here Sharukh has walked in.

This is more normal. GT have not reached 100 but also not 50. This has been excellent bowling from RCB they are taking the pace off the ball and these two batters are struggling to cope with at this point in time. 

Siraj bowled another excellent over here. Compared to what has happened in the last couple of days this has been a sedate start from Gujarat Titans today. Seems like it is going to be that kind off day where the scores will be in moderation. 

Dayal has been brought into the attack and delivered a good over. He changed up his pace up nicely in that very first over. This has been good start from RCB seems like they have read the conditions well and are bowling according to the plans.

Before the last ball of the first over, wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik yelped at the bowler, Swapnil Singh, “Bada shot aa raha hain, mid-wicket ke upar (A big shot is coming, over mid-wicket). It’s an area Wriddhiman Saha fetishes, and had already struck a four, a flick, just between long-on and deep mid-wicket. The message was perhaps a message to Swapnil to bowl the toss-up ball out-side the off-stump. He did exactly that, drastically reducing the pace. Saha, meanwhile, had premeditated to hit him over extra cover. So he moved to the leg-side to manufacture room, only to find the ball was too far from his body. Nonetheless, he went with the shot, with one, managed only a feeble connection and the ball soared to the short third-man’s palms. Swapnil teed off to hug Karthik, who broke into the satisfied grin of someone whose plan has worked to perfection.

We have a slight interruption here Gill pushed the ball to mid-off and tried to sneak a single however Siraj got in his way and there was a collision mid-pitch, thank fully for the sake of the spirit of cricket folks the ball from the mid-off fielder missed the stumps as Gill could reach the other end.

Swapnil Singh took the new ball for RCB and he picked the wicket of Saha off the final ball. The batter tried to hit the ball through covers and lofted the shot got the outside edge and was caught at point. This is good positive start for RCB.

It is quite hot here in Ahmedabad. Both the openers of GT have walked into the middle the crowd is buzzing. We are going to have a cracker of a game sit back relax and enjoy all the action. 

Not disappointed (to miss a few matches), all depends on the team combination, the team management makes the decisions. Have to give my best whenever an opportunity is presented. Our team winning is more important than anything else, happy that we could clinch a win in the last game (against Sunrisers), they have played some really good cricket this season. I try to take wickets so that the run rate of the opposition team dips. A lot of runs are getting scored in the powerplay and towards the end overs, my focus is to take wickets in the middle overs. All about taking one game at a time from here on, we'll try to win all matches.

It's very hot today, 62m and 64m square boundaries while the straight boundary is at 72m. The wicket looks pretty good, but it's quite dry. It should spin a bit and will be consistent even if you're batting first or second. 180 could be a good score batting first, but both teams will rely heavily on spin and changes in variations, reckon Michael Clarke and Graeme Swann

Would have chased as well, looks a really good wicket. Need to put a good total on the board. We have batted decently, we lost by a difference of just one ball in the last game. This is the right time to peak for us.

The wicket will be better later, so we will like to chase. With so many high scores the nature of this game has changed, our bowlers have been exceptional in the last two games. We have scored big with the bat, those are the changes. Maxwell comes back in, we have some firepower in the middle-order.

Last two years, as a team and as an individual, we've contributed consistently. This season has seen a bit of ups and downs, but we'll look to get back to some consistent performances. My role is the same at the top of the order, we got good starts in a few games, not so in a few other matches. This time, we've seen scores of 250-260 being made, 100+ in the batting PP, my contribution during the batting PP will be vital for the team. This time we also have impact players, with batters coming at 8, it will offer some cushion to the batters who can play their shots. Previously, there were times when we needed to be slightly cautious in the first few overs.

He is still the unparalleled chase-master. He averages 71.85 when chasing, with a healthy strike rate of 137. The nearest competitor from a top-10 nation is Suryakumar Yadav (50.12) but with a better striking rate of 159. In 46 chases when Kohli has batted, India have won 40. In those games, he averages 86.84. The strike rate is around his mean — 136 to the overall 138. And 18 times, he has remained undefeated. None more memorable than the unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in Melbourne during the T20 World Cup.

True that Kohli is not a super-modern batsman in this format and that a posse of incredibly talented youngsters has staked their claims. But the simple reality is that he remains undroppable in any version of the game. It’s not because of his stature, or the grand past, or the commercial pull of his face splashed on New York skyscrapers. But because he still matters when he has a bat in hand.

Ever since Virat Kohli returned to India, even the minutest detail about the 35-year-old has found its way to social media. According to accuweather.com, the weather in Ahmedabad is expected to be good for the game of cricket. The temperature is expected to be around 35°C on the match day with 44% humidity.

The Ahmedabad pitch has behaved differently in the four matches played at the venue. In the last outing at the venue, GT suffered a massive defeat, folding for 89, which Delhi Capitals then chased down within nine overs.

This will be the first time when the two teams will be playing against each other at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After a modest beginning to the season, Rajat Patidar has shown smidgens of his batting skills, especially against the spinners. While his 23-ball 52 carried RCB nearly home against Kolkata, Patidar’s 20-ball 50 came in a winning cause against Hyderabad. The right-hander, whose strength is his excellent eye-hand coordination rather than innovation, will be eager to make a similar impact against the GT spinners.

Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill have scored upwards of 300 runs in this IPL, making three combined fifties, but the GT middle-order has not really been able to do a follow-up act. The likes of David Miller (138 runs), Shahrukh Khan (30), Vijay Shankar (73) and Rahul Tewatia (153) have had fleeting moments but failed to carry on.
