The audacity of splicing together footage from different historical eras of camera technology and trying to pass it off as one movie is very funny but not funny enough to justify how fucking boring this is.
Not John Rhys-Davies though. He was great as the French-Canadian trapper.

Quickie: Shot and completed in 1983 but not released until now for some reason. There are some things this movie does better than the first one but overall it's vastly inferior film. The bear puppet used in this movie is leagues better than anything in the original and this film boasts some insane celebrity cameos ranging from Charlie Sheen to David freaking Bowie. This movie is extremely sloppy in it's presentation and feels like a cheap mess. well.. it has a beginning and an end, but it's still very unfinished. i saw someone say it would've been a better idea for them to use the old footage for most of it, but then bring back the old actors and change the setting to present day for the ending so that it looks like the bear has been terrorizing them for 40 years. now that sounds like a film i'd love.
The myth built around this film in the late VHS days was such that it became a sort of Holy Grail for collectors and finally a rough work-print did surface, but the film was never completed properly. The bear attack scenes don't actually have footage of a bear because the animatronic one built for the film was deemed too ridiculous and scrapped. Instead we get a Jaws-like solution where we don't get to see the bear, just the frightened looks on the victim's faces... until the final, unedited reel where we get some hilarious shots of the robot bear attacking a new wave concert.

I'd argue that this doesn't even deserve to be listed on Letterboxd as a movie. It's just footage from an unfinished sequel poorly edited together with some newly filmed scenes to fill in some gaps and extend the runtime. Except nothing they add helps make it feel complete and it all feels out of place. They could have at least used stock nature footage from the time to make it a little less jarring. It wouldn't help that much though because most of the scenes themselves are incomplete and the bear attacks are missing effects. It's an incoherent mess that shouldn't have received a separate release advertised as a now complete film "37 years in the making". The footage (without the new additions) should have just been included as a special feature on the disc of the original film. Then, it may have been interesting as a curiosity. As a full movie though, it's unbearable (pun intended).
This was…wow! I’ve heard about it for years and all the drama behind it so it was nice to finally see it but wow. It’s not a good movie, but I could see this becoming iconic with time for being such a complex bad movie.

1983 wurde mit dem Dreh an diesen "Tier-Horrorfilm" angefangen, 2020 fand das Filmiche Desaster ein Ende. Was einem hier geboten wird ist irgendwie schon eine Frechheit😅, denn das gesehene tut stellenweise ziemlich weh. Von dem "Horror" fehlt hier jede spur, genau so wie von dem "Grizzly". Was man von ihm zu "sehen" bekomnt ist lächerlich, was übrigens die "Handlung" auch ist. An unfinished film from 1983 that finally gets completed and released in January. It's no surprise that the result is a mess. Expect a ridiculous mix of old and new stock footage to pad it out and very few bear attack. That being said though, I still find it somewhat entertaining. If you're curious, it's on Showtime.

The rating reflects my enjoyment of this movie, rather than what normal folks might think of as "quality." This movie is PRIMO bad movie dreck. It began shooting in 1983, but on the first day of filming the main financier was arrested for fraud. The director found enough alternate financing to keep shooting, but it wasn't ever officially released until last year, when they were able to cobble together old footage with new additions and *heavy* ADR, to just barely drag the thing to a 74-minute runtime. The result is an object lesson in how editing can do an awful lot, but it can't save every movie.
