The chips were out of a frozen packet not very good. No Meat as they had run out of steaks, also no English tea. apart from that ok.

I was very disappointed with the gluten free options, 2 of the 4 weren’t available on the night we were there. I ended up paying for a very over priced steak. It was advertised with beef dripping chips…..they most definitely weren’t! The chips were dry and tasteless. My friend had fish and chips which again she felt were over priced and uninspiring. There was no atmosphere at the venue and it was cold, despite being on a table next to the fire, it wasn’t lit. Overall I felt this was a very mediocre over priced meal out and wouldn’t recommend unless you can’t find anywhere else to eat.

Came for Mother’s Day. Asked for quiet table as one of party is hard of hearing and very pleased to be seated in table by bay window which was nice and quiet, which we really appreciated particularly as it was very busy. Served by Kirsten who deserves a special mention. She was lovely, super friendly and very helpful as always. We’ve been various times before and she’s always very attentive and helpful and makes dining at the Red Lion a pleasure. Food was delicious and a reasonable price and good choice for vegetarians which is great. Kevin was very friendly and helpful too and the man who greeted us on arrival as well. Overall it’s one of our favourite places to meet up and the service is always a cut above. Thank you to everyone at the Red Lion - Clare Mills

This was our first visit and we were very happy. The girl working our section was on her own and had to work hard to keep the tables served and cleared. The fish dishes were slightly cool and I suspect they had sat for a while but overall we rated the experience as good.

Unfortunately the restrooms were in complete disarray and the smell from the restrooms near our table were so bad they distracted from our whole meal. Fun venue , nice server, fine food.

Love the ambiance of this place. It’s cosy, warm and inviting. It’s a busy pub for a reason ! The car park needs to be double the size due to its popularity!

The food was okay but I ordered the steak sandwich. It came with a large amount of mustard mayonnaise which I am allergic to. I think this should be part of the description of the dish. The woman was great she gave me a new roll so I could transfer the beef but the salad was coated in the mayonnaise. Also the fries were stone cold so inedible. Disappointed

Have been twice in November and great. Good friends joined us from Sevenoaks .Service erratic. Long waits. The Risotto was nothing of the sort as was the limp tender stem broccoli Caesar Salad. Sorry Red Lion . Have visited since 1979.

Valentine’s Day was also our 54th wedding anniversary so it was a special day for us. A meal that was so well presented made us feel very special. We didn’t mention it was our anniversary but how we were looked after made us feel very good. Thankyou

The service was outstanding and well timed. The waitress knew about each dish and was able to answer questions. Food was well presented, tasty and the portion size was just right. We would definitely return…..in fact we are! With friends.

Roast dinner was disappointing. 5 of our party had beef and couldn’t cut or eat any of it. The cauliflower cheese was over priced for the amount and very hard. Was also served without spoons and we couldn’t get the attention of staff. Noisy with dogs barking and one dog had been in the river so smelt terrible, not pleasant when you are eating. Shame as we were celebrating an 18th. Sadly I won’t return and it used to be a favourite. Bring back Louka, we miss those days!

Lovely pub. Great atmosphere warm and open. Food excellent. You can always rate a pub by its burger and it was excellent, tasty, crispy with an excellent balance between flavour and texture. Squid starter was delicious too. Perfectly cooked which you rarely see in the UK. Even the side salad was moreish. Chips were perfect. Wish I had had room for pudding! Great friendly service too.

Tuesday lunch was not a patch on the Sunday roasts we have eaten here! Food was ok but just ok, not amazing and for the cost, a bit disappointing. Quite a few things not available from menu and coffee machine was out of order which was a shame on what was a very wet and cold day. The toilets could definitely do with some maintenance and air fresheners (smelt very drainy) - a real let down of a nice pub. Staff were very polite and chatty and brought our dogs biscuits and a bowl of water. Will return as it’s a halfway meeting point and great spot for a post lunch walk!

Very disappointed. Nearly an hour wait for food , we were told , one order forgotten leaving one person waiting for food while others ate. Obviously that meal was rushed , badly cooked , cold fries not nice at all. Others said parts of their meals were cold. Very busy and staff rushed . Couldn’t detect any ginger in the sponge and there was a shortage of custard ! Won’t be going back anytime soon.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our latest visit to the Red Lion for Friday lunch. The service from the welcoming hello to the effusive farewell was beyond excellent if there is such a service level? The food; mine scallops starter and cider battered fish and chips was sublime. My friend’s squid starter and burger main course, she said was delicious. The waiter was charm himself. His manner was attentive without being intrusive. We valued his presence at the table so much because it added to the ambience of our dining experience, we added to the set gratuity of 10% with an additional 12% . We highly recommend The Red Lion.

First time we have visited the Red Lion and we really enjoyed it. Very dog friendly and our dog sat under the table while we ate. The atmosphere was lovely and wouldn’t fault anything. The warm pumpkin salad was delicious along with everything we ordered. Vegetarian options were good, and different, along with the meat options for my husband. It isn’t cheap, but that’s what allowed the menu and food to be so good. The service was friendly and a good pace - not rushed or too slow for us. Planning a second visit already.

Been dining here for a while on Sundays...like at least 5/6 years. Usually 2 or 3 times per year. For the second time my open table booking has not been recognised on arrival, despite confirming the day before. They've accommodated, but still makes for an arkward arrival. Food quality very good, but choice and portion size much reduced over time. Fish was ridiculously small ! Same for the beer, used to have a great choice of real ale, now just TT Landlord. Service friendly, but slow. Ordered our drinks myself. Toilets pretty poor - smelly and need a more frequent check and clean. Lastly the prices. Used to be about ~£50 / couple. Now we're up to ~£75 / couple in 2 years. I can work out inflation, but I think prices have outstripped inflation. Still the place is always busy and in a great area for walking the dog, kids and Cambridge trappings, so you can charge what you like I guess. But we don't be back I'm afraid, and I'm sad about that.

Unfortunately it was a disappointing visit. The Caesar salad was severely lacking and crazily overpriced at £16. When I told a member of staff all I got was 'I know, it's ridiculous.' He eventually said he'd take one of them off the bill but it was all handled very oddly. We were left alone for most of the meal with our table not be cleared for ages after we finished (potentially because they know the meals are a bit rubbish). A real shame because the pub itself is so lovely and such a nice spot for lunch after a nice walk from Cambridge.
