- babst1Bristol, UK92 contributionsWhat a place, Came here after visiting the nearby lake. Paid the small fee to go inside the chuch, made of wood. Never seen a place like it but absolutely loved it. Well worth the visitWritten September 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DocRah6Greater Perth, Australia1,167 contributionsThis was a great insight into the zinc,Gold, lead, iron, copper and bronze mining industry and the history of the mine which closed around 1989. Lots of walking and you get to experience what it was like in the early days for the miners and how they work and the machinery they used. Do take a light jacket as it is very cool and wear appropriate shoes.Written June 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,362 contributionsOn your visit of Goslar, it is a must to pass some tie on the “Market Square”, who is the central square in the historic old town of Goslar. The square is a paved area and surrounded by numerous important buildings. The most striking building on the market square is the town hall, which was originally built in the Gothic style. The Kaiserworth is the Kaiserworth, which was built in the year 1494 and has also been redesigned several times over the years. The Kaiserringhaus on the east side of the market square is the slate-clad Kaiserringhaus, we do also have a memorial stone. And on the east side of the square is a monument in the form of a large lump of ore. The Market Fountain rises in the center of the market square. Today, the Goslar market square is not only a diverse attraction, but also a popular meeting place for locals and guestsWritten March 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lissi177 contributionsThe Imperial Palace is so much part of Goslar it would be a shame to miss it. We took a cursory look at the palace grounds “as the snow lay deep about”, but we found a warm welcoming environment inside. We were pleased to have a self guided tour available in English. The lower floor had some special features of note but the Main Hall was breathtaking in its magnificence. We just sat …and absorbed …and gazed out the windows at the town below. We briefly visited the chapel as it was icy cold, but I could have sworn the Gregorian chanters were real. It was a beautiful touch. I would love to have explored more of the place but that was all. Still worth the time in my opinion.Written November 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- NordgaardHerning, Denmark352 contributionsWe have done this walk several times and really enjoy the nature and the view over the lakes. Here is quiet and nice and you can take different sidepaths either to shorten your walk or to see other parts of the forrested area and the mountain Bocksberg. This is great for walking any time of the year.Written July 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,362 contributionsThe market church was first mentioned in a document in the year 1151. The origins of today's church building are going back to the 11th century, where a previous building must have already existed. This was dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra; It was probably a Romanesque, three-aisled pillar basilica with a transept and crossing. On the night of July 14th to 15th, from the year 1844, the church roof and both towers fell victim to a major fire, as did the bells. After reconstruction, the church was consecrated again in the year 1849. We could not see th inside of this church because it was closed on the moment of our visit.Written April 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lissi177 contributionsWhat a wonderful way to explore the history of Goslar in this 500 year old building with these dioramas of exquisite detail. From the natural history of the area to the development of the mining, village life, imperial court life and everything in between these dioramas delight. The lady at the desk went out of her way to accommodate our lack of German and would have assisted us to cast our own tin figures if we wanted. Can’t speak highly enough of this museum. So glad we went.Written November 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,362 contributionsWhen you have stopped by Backer Wolf to have some lunch or a cop of coffee, just walk down the street and after about 500 meters you arrive in front of the “Breites Tor”. In to the late Middle Ages, it was the most important city gate in the mining and Hanseatic city of Goslar. It got built in the year 1443 and subsequently expanded into a bulwark, which alone put many ordinary castle complexes in the shade. The “Wide Gate” was like a double gate - in front of the inner gate, which still exists today, there was an outer gate, which in turn was flanked by two large towers. Between these two gates was the barracks for the gate guards, a structure that is known today as the “Werderhof”. In the 18th century, the city wall and its gates had completely lost their defensive function. As elsewhere, a large part of the fortifications in Goslar were demolished in the course of the 19th century. Nowadays, a public road runs through the Broad Gate. The interior of the building can also be viewed as part of a city tour.Written March 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,362 contributionsThis is on the façade from a house who is located on the east side of the market square. Three doors open and a circle of figures - accompanied by the chimes that sing mining tunes - tells the story of Rammelsberg's mining industry from the legendary discovery by the knight Ramm to modern times. Normally four times a day, the game starts on the “gable of the combination building”, unfortunately we did not see it started”. The carillon and the circulation of figures were donated by Preussag in 1968 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Rammelsberg mining. In addition, the morning song will be played at 8:30 a.m. and the evening song will be played at 6:30 p.m. (without figure rotation). Playing times daily at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.Written March 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John JKolding, Denmark136 contributionsThe Harz mountains had a stuffy image for many years. It is not stuffy anymore. A lot of work has been made on creating activities and sports. - hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,362 contributionsI can start by telling that this picture with the red building and statues in his facade is not the "Rathaus" from Goslar, but it is also on the market Square in Goslar!
For those who are visiting the old town of Goslar, you can not miss the “Old “Rathaus” who is also on the market Square. This house is being used before the years 1200 thru 1600, it is not a large building but very interesting, especially for those you love history buildings, we did not went op the staircase to visit the famous room as we had read on Tripadvisor that you could not see it. Also interesting is that you have the tourist Info left of the staircase in the same building, here you can get all kind of information on Goslar, and they are very friendly.Written March 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
