Lochaber Athletic Club (LAC) juniors took part in the second North District cross country league race at Evanton on Saturday November 19 over a hilly wooded course.

This was the first chance to see the newly-formed under 11 boys’ team in action.

Aaron Tresidder was involved in the closest race of the day. With the lead exchanging hands with East Sutherland, it all came down to a sprint finish with Aaron edged out by one metre to finish second in six minutes and eight seconds.

Toby Smith and Jethro Murray were running their first cross country for LAC and came away with good seventh and 20th places in a large field leaving Lochaber overall second out of nine teams, narrowly edging out Moray and East Sutherland and just a few points behind winners Inverness.

In the under 11 girls’ race, Lily Cant ran a controlled race with a fast finish to take third place in 6:49 with Carys Rodgers 18th in 7:55. Their results meant Lochaber were third team overall.

In the under 13 boys’ race, David Rodgers ran a more tactical race than in the first event at Nairn and was ninth in 14:03. A fast finish saw Merry Wells gain 20th position.

Isla Cant ran in a mixed under 15 and under 17 girls race over a 4.5 km course and was seventh in 22:18.

To round off the day, Ben Dodman ran well in a field of 68 men to take 32nd place in a fast time over the hilly eight km course in 37:38.

Next up is the North District championships at Gordonstoun School near Elgin on December 3 where Lochaber will compete against top north clubs.
