Scottish by birth, Gordon Ramsay was brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and initially aspired to be a professional soccer player but an injury put an end to that and led him to the kitchen. He's trained with some of the world’s leading chefs, such as Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White in London, and Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon in France. At the age of 31, Ramsay set up his first wholly owned and namesake restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which quickly received the most prestigious accolade in the culinary world – three Michelin stars.

Now internationally renowned, Ramsay has opened restaurants around the globe including in London, Las Vegas, Singapore, Baltimore, Europe and Dubai. Ramsay has also become a star of the small screen with hit shows in both the UK & US. From Gordon, Gino & Fred on ITV, Gordon Ramsay's Bank Balance on BBC to FOX's MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, Hell's Kitchen & 24 Hours to Hell and Back as well National Geographic's Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted which airs in 172 countries.

Ramsay has seen success in a variety of other ventures outside of restaurants and television including his online MasterClass, and Mobile Puzzle Game, "Chef Blast with Gordon Ramsay." This is in addition to his highly successful YouTube channel that has various cooking formats including his widely popular series "Ramsay in 10" & "Scrambled." Ramsay also loves to TikTok with his daughter Tilly.

In 2006, in recognition of all that Ramsay has contributed to the industry, he received an OBE (Order of the British Empire awarded by Queen Elizabeth II). Since then, Ramsay and his wife, Tana, set up the Gordon and Tana Ramsay Foundation in 2014, to make a meaningful difference to the London-based children's hospital Great Ormond Street.

Wow! I've only tried a couple of F Word recipes so far and they've been both incredibly delicious and quite easy. Yes, a lot of the recipes do call for some fancypants ingredients, but dishes centered around things like duck and sea bass I save for special occasions. I'll also make substitutions like buying whatever white-flesh fish is local and reasonably priced instead of sea bass. Some recipes are so fancypants I'm unlikely to every actually try them (like fois gras or scallops). But there are plenty of other recipes that are great for every day or random weekend cooking like his red wine beef stew and garlic risotto. The recipes are usually quite simple but can take some time to prepare (hence the title). Still highly recommend for a cookbook.

Note - I do agree that some of the pages are hard to read due to the font and color choices (like white writing on pale yellow background) but those are usually just Gordon Ramsay's thoughts and introductions to recipes. The recipes themselves seem to all be clear and easy to read.

Ok, the pictures are nice. And some of the recipes. BUT - he claims he published the book to encourage people to sit down and eat with their families. There is absolutely no way that his timelines, which are an integral part of the structure of the book, i.e. "two hours ahead", "an hour ahead" and "just before serving", are possible for an ordinary home cook. They would require an experienced multitasking professional cook to accomplish. Anyone else trying them would end up with dinner three hours late and themselves a frazzled mess. Not to mention his frequent allusions to "a knob of butter" or "a few knobs of butter". Meaningless term, vague and useless, and his usage is also contradictory. Why would he say to use "50g of butter", a very precise measurement, in a recipe, and then go on to say "add a few knobs of butter". It makes the 50g ludicrous. Also, if the point is to sit down and eat with one's family, the complex and time consuming instructions under "just before serving" would often not be possible unless the person cooking stayed in the kitchen working the whole time everyone else is eating.

I've been a huge fan of Gordon for some time, watching his shows, reading his autobiography etc. I have 5-6 of his cookbooks and they are all great. He adds some humor in there, and makes sure not to present things above the average cooks head. The food is excellent, the suggested menus work well together (although I often interchange dishes). As well as themed 'lunches' there are also little asides e.g. 5 ways with carrots, and the spiced carrots with star anise has been a big hit with our guests. I've used Gordon's honey mustard marinade a lot, and the beef casserole with mustard mash potatoes has to be one of my favorites. Definite worth adding to your cookbook collection

Be aware In his cookbooks, since Chef Ramsey is from the UK he uses measurements and terms that are not standard and in some cases not familiar to us US cooks, which is very disappointing since that means we will need to purchase equipment that reads grams and milliliters And the oven temps are in centigrade so also have to be converted. I found no conversion chart anywhere in his cookbooks, so in order to try his I'm sure excellent recipes, will require considerable time to convert!

If you enjoy the show "The F Word" I am sure that several recipes have caught your eye. Many of them are extremely simple but yield tremendous flavor. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in going a step up in cooking. The instructions are very clear, and many of the recipes can even be looked up on Youtube if you ever get stuck. Ramsay balances flavors so well, and doesn't care for any gimmicky recipes like many other cookbooks offer. He is about food and flavor, and this book certainly delivers that.

I LOVE Gordon Ramsay, and I wanted to get some of his cookbooks, but for an American fan who doesn't live in a big city, it's going to be difficult to find certain ingredients. I also realized that because many of his recipes don't sound appetizing to an American palette, I would only be using a fraction of the book. Logically, it makes more sense for me to find selected recipes online instead of only using a portion of the book's content. Maybe his dessert cookbook will be more universally pleasing?

Everything is laid out as meals and it gives timings as to when to start what part etc. The recipes are doable for an average cook and don't require too many 'hard to locate' items.
