Editorial Reviews
Sonny and Cher appear as themselves in Good Times, the 1967 spoof of various genres; including mysteries, westerns and spy thrillers. The soundtrack features new songs written by Sonny, as well as two new recordings of their #1 hit, 'I Got You Babe' (a Pet Sounds in an elevator version and a comic acoustic version). The album also features two bonus tracks: The single edit of 'It's The Little Things,' and the rare single 'Plastic Man'. The album will be released in the original Mono version.

I am sorry for this fact as I get very excited when I saw it available. Glad it is out there, but remastering is a big thud!
Lovely Bono compositons here though!
Leading off is a waltz-time instrumental version of the duo’s signature “I Got You Babe,” a title that appears again at the soundtrack’s end in a fetching acoustic arrangement. In between is Sonny’s perfectly self-deprecating “It’s the Little Things” in all its proto-Spectorian grandeur, its B-side Cher showcase “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” the sultry B-side “I’m Gonna Love You” (originally released as a Cher solo on Imperial in 1965), and several songs lifted from the soundtrack with lead-in dialogue. The latter include the stage-hall styled title tune and another of Sonny’s self-deprecating, average-guy love songs, “Just a Name.”
The bonus tracks include the single “Plastic Man” and its B-side edit of “It’s the Little Things.” The latter shortens the album track by dropping the middle stanza of the refrain. Earlier reissues have included only the edited version, so the full album take turns out to be the real bonus. Varese has used the true mono master, unlike One Way’s 1999 reissue , and though quite listenable, the fidelity still isn’t the best that the era offered. Friedkin’s original liners are included alongside new notes by Larry R. Watts, rounding out an obscure entry in Sonny and Cher’s catalog, but one that harbors several top-notch tunes. "Good Times" the movie is an anachronism, and so is this ATCO soundtrack (SD 33-214). Included here are good-sized dollops of dialogue and extremely primitive stereo mixes. As cover art reveals, back then the former Miss Cheryl Sarkisian spelled her first name with "accent aigu over the 'E'," to misquote the great Dukenfield. Seeing these two happily together leaves a yearning in any S&C fan's heart for the "Good Times."
SIDE ONE NOTES
1.) Title sequence orchestral track opens briefly and closes with girl singers. 2.) Cher sounds great at the top of this fine rock ballad. Sonny handles the middle section and there's a short baritone sax solo. 3.) This Western sheriff film segment (see front cover photo) has Sonny, then Cher, performing the title song. A strange audio mix pushes all instruments off to the left with vocals at center. 4.) A Sonny slow number that starts with movie dialogue. Cher's part of the song is a contrasting melody. When Sonny returns for their duet it becomes yet another song, one in which they daydream about experiences they'd enjoy having.
SIDE TWO NOTES
1.) Totally Cher, totally lovely. 2.) Another for her, this time quite bluesy. 3.) Angry fight dialogue included here may symbolically represent struggles that director Friedkin suggests in liner notes occurred during the shoot. After Sonny rides off on a motorcycle, Cher sings of her devotion to him. Of course, at the end Sonny expresses the same feelings for Cher. 4.) A gently romantic version of their hit song features Spanish-style acoustic guitar and chimes. It's a lovely album closer.
