Season 1 – The Good Cop

2018 Crime Comedy Drama TRAILER for The Good Cop: Season 1 Trailer List
50% 26 Reviews Tomatometer 83% 100+ Ratings Audience Score Big Tony is a lovable, but not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, TJ, a straight-laced NYPD detective who always follows the rules while solving Brooklyn's toughest cases. They may be an odd couple but they become unofficial partners with Tony Sr. offering his overly cautious son blunt, street-wise advice. Emmy nominee Tony Danza stars as the elder officer in his first starring role on a sitcom since the late 1990s, and Grammy nominated-singer Josh Groban portrays Tony Jr. in his first regular sitcom role. Critics Consensus

Despite a pair of likable leads, The Good Cop's reliance on procedural cliches sucks out much of the fun -- though those looking for an easy watch may find comfort in its familiarity.

Gail O Fun and quirky! Really wish there were more seasons! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Scott W I was enjoying Danza until they went slapstick comedy with a 98lb girl beating up a 200lb ex cop. Nope. I'll look for something else to watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Paul P Great salt and pepper between the characters Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Tom W Really liked the characters, actors, directors ... but the writing was really poor. Danza was good, but having him being centric to each case was really off-putting and unbelievable. If he was going to be be centric to all the crime stories that formed a basis of the plots, he should have been written to be on the force/team. It's like having Judith from Who's the Boss written into each criminal case of a side-bar cop show. Just cheesy writing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review Foggen1231 Little wonder this only lasted one season. Breckmann's former series with the obsessive-compulsive Monk I really liked but this, looking for the same target audience as a semi humorous crime drama fails in just about all categories. Monk at least had good scriptwriting, but this is an A grade fail. Neither of the two leads are strong enough to carry the series. FAIL. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/22 Full Review Tyler K A lot of entertainment value to be had and a lot of lovable characters with some pretty funny jokes but overall very predictable and has a lot of flaws it's hard for me to say that I absolutely love this but I am sad that there isn't a season two and I definitely recommend it 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Matt Zoller Seitz New York Magazine/Vulture The Good Cop sometimes feel like a defense of the kinds of police whose terroristic activities make people on the receiving end of their behavior feel like targets rather than citizens. May 14, 2019 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire But [Josh Groban] doesn't add anything to a character who's conceived to be a blank slate, and "The Good Cop" doesn't help him out in the slightest. Rated: C- Sep 24, 2018 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times Mr. Groban works hard and hits his marks, and he's likable, but he doesn't have anything resembling the comic chops needed to put across the show's Borscht Belt-style humor, or anything like Mr. Shalhoub's ability to relay emotion through movement. Sep 24, 2018 Full Review Tim Appelo AARP Movies for Grownups It's great just to have Danza back. Oct 3, 2018 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Mild violence, language in endearing throwback cop sitcom. Rated: 4/5 Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Brenden Gallagher The Daily Dot After 45 minutes, the case and dozens of jokes will have been cracked, and the viewer will be ready to go on the pleasantly predictable ride all over again.
