Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge from near Fort Point

The Golden Gate bridge is one of the most famous and beautiful bridges in the world because of its spectacular location, graceful lines, Art Deco detailing, and emblematic color. With towers extending 746 feet into the sky and over 100 feet beneath the bay, the bridge is also an engineering marvel. You may walk or bike (no bike rentals available at he bridge) the entire length of the 1.7 mile-long bridge, but dress warmly! At the south end, gifts can be purchased at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, and the Round House and Bridge Cafés provide food. During the part of the year with daylight savings time, the bridge walk is open to pedestrians between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. The remainder of the year the bridge walk is open from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
