The cast of Godzilla vs. Kong is packed with familiar faces, new characters, and incredible monsters. Many of the principal characters in the highly anticipated crossover are new additions to the MonsterVerse, while others will be recognized for their roles in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Like other movies in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong’s story begins with a mostly new cast. That being said, the main protagonists will are once again connected to Monarch, a once-secret organization that’s been integral to the world of Godzilla and Kong since the launch of the MonsterVerse in 2014. This time around, Monarch has become embroiled in a battle between two rival alphas, Godzilla and Kong. Their conflict serves as a continuation of an ancient Titan War that raged between their ancestors thousands of years ago. Not only does Monarch get caught in the middle, but they find themselves at odds with Godzilla.

Prior to beating Ghidorah and claiming his title as the King of the Monsters, Godzilla was regarded as an ally to humanity, but the situation has changed, with Godzilla now launching attacks on human cities. Involved in all of this is a cybernetic company called APEX, who are Godzilla vs. Kong’s human villains. Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård is known for starring in HBO’s True Blood for several years. He also played the titular protagonist in Legend of Tarzan. In Godzilla vs. Kong, he plays Dr. Nathan Lind, a scientist who sides with Kong against Godzilla. He’ll leads Monarch’s expedition into the Hollow Earth tunnels.

Millie Bobby Brown as Madison Russell

Millie Bobby Brown, known for starring in Netflix’s Stranger Things as Eleven, played Madison Russell in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. At first, she was an accomplice to her mother’s plan to unleash the Titans on the Earth, but eventually her morality won out over her loyalty. It was her decision to steal the Orca that led to Godzilla’s final victory over King Ghidorah in Boston. Her MonsterVerse story continues in Godzilla vs. Kong, which sends her on a path to understand the mystery of APEX and the real reason for why Godzilla has turned on humanity.

Kaylee Hottle as Jia

Godzilla vs. Kong will be the first movie role for Kaylee Hottle, who plays Jia. Like the child actress portraying her, Jia is deaf, and has to communicate with others through sign language. Through this method, she’s actually capable of communicating with Kong, with whom she’s formed a very close bond. Because of their strong relationship, Kong is determined to keep her safe.

Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews

Taking care of Jia and working alongside Alexander Skarsgård’s is Dr. Ilene Andrews, a Monarch scientist who’s part of what Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard calls the movie's “Team Kong”. The character is played by Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall, who had big roles in movies like Transcendence, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, and Iron Man 3.

Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes

Brian Tyree Henry plays Bernie Hayes, a scientist with deep ties to APEX, and who is central to the “Team Godzilla” side of the story, and Madison’s investigation into the corporation. Henry previously starred in FX’s critically acclaimed series, Atlanta, and is also set to join Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe as Phastos in Eternals.

Kyle Chandler as Mark Russell: Chandler reprises his role as Mark Russell, who was King of the Monsters’ human protagonist and the scientist who designed the Orca. He’s one of only two characters in the movie to have appeared in an earlier MonsterVerse movie, the other being Madison. Zhang Ziyi was supposed to return as Dr. Chen from King of the Monsters, but her character wasn’t in the final film, which means her scenes may have been cut.

Demián Bichir as Walter Simmons: The character played by The Nun actor Demián Bichir is Walter Simmons, a billionaire and the founder of APEX.

Eiza González as Maya Simmons: Gonzalez starred in Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn show and was also featured in the Fast & Furious spinoff movie, Hobbs & Shaw. Her Godzilla vs. Kong character, who is associated with APEX, is the daughter of Walter Simmons.

Shun Oguri as Ren Serizawa: APEX scientist Ren Serizawa is the son of Dr. Ishirō Serizawa (Ken Watanabe), who lost his life saving Godzilla in King of the Monsters. This will be Oguri’s first time appearing in a Hollywood production, as the actor is known primarily for starring in Japanese movies and TV shows.

Julian Dennison as Josh Valentine: Julian Dennison’s Josh Valentine is a close friend to Madison, and a character who assists her and Bernie while they research APEX and Godzilla’s motives for suddenly attacking the humans.

Lance Reddick as Monarch director: Reddick has played key roles in various TV shows, including Fringe and Bosch. He’s also a major player in the John Wick movies with Keanu Reeves. In Godzilla vs. Kong, Reddick portrays an unnamed character who fills an administrative role at Monarch.

Godzilla: Godzilla vs. Kong marks the third MonsterVerse outing for Godzilla. Having previously taken his place as the alpha of the Titans, Godzilla is once more seen as the major threat in the movie, and as promised goes head-to-head in an epic clash with his eponymous foe.

Kong: This is Kong's second movie in the MonsterVerse, following on from 2017's Kong: Skull Island.

Warbarts: A pair of these large, winged serpentine creatures appear in Godzilla vs. Kong as predators within the Hollow Earth. The Warbats were first revealed attacking Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong's trailers, and this marks their first MonsterVerse appearance.

Hellhawk: Another new Titan introduced in Godzilla vs. Kong is a flying monster known as a Hellhawk, which looks like a giant cross between a bird and a bat.

Mechagodzilla: The biggest new monster in Godzilla vs. Kong is Mechagodzilla, who had been hinted at and teased in various leaks prior to release. Traditionally, Mechagodzilla is utilized as a weapon built to take down the King of the Monsters. The classic Godzilla villain, who made his first appearance in 1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, has a reputation as a powerful robot equipped with an impressive arsenal of missiles and lasers.
