Hyatt Is Adding Two Dominican Republic All-Inclusive Resorts

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 15, 2023

Hyatt is adding a pair of all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic this year, part of an expansion of its Inclusive Collection.

The new resorts are both par of the Be Live Hotels portfolio; both will be renovated and converted into family-friendly Sunscape Resorts.

The renovated hotels, which were not identified by Hyatt, will both be opening before the end of the year. Both properties are owned by Spanish hotel company Globalia.

Most notably, the new resorts will add nearly 2,000 rooms to Hyatt’s all-inclusive collection.

“This planned expansion of the Sunscape Resorts & Spas brand in the Caribbean marks an opportunity to broaden all-inclusive family-friendly offerings in a desirable market for global travelers,” said Javier Coll, group president, global business development & innovation at the Inclusive Collection, Hyatt. “We are seeing great demand for the four-star product and are grateful for the trust of Globalia in the future of these properties as part of our growing global Inclusive Collection brand portfolio. We believe this collaboration showcases the combined strength and potential of Hyatt and Apple Leisure Group and how owners are empowered to remain vested in their assets while achieving success through our brands, distribution channels and global reputation.”

Sunscape Resorts and Spas were the primary family-friendly brand under Apple Leisure Group, which became the Inclusive Collection after Hyatt acquired ALG in 2021.

The two new resorts are part of a continued expansion into all-inclusive for Hyatt, whose all-inclusive brands now include Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, Secrets Resorts & Spas, Breathless Resorts & Spas, Dreams Resorts & Spas, Hyatt Vivid Hotels & Resorts, Alua Hotels & Resorts and the Sunscape Resorts & Spas brands.

“For Globalia, this moment with Hyatt represents another success in the strategy followed by the group to recover and strengthen our leadership position in the markets where we are present together with a company that is a world renowned in the hospitality industry,” said Juan José Hidalgo, President of Globalia. “We are proud to walk together with Hyatt in the development and growth of a differentiated proposal for the vacation model in the Sunscape Resorts & Spas brand, and we hope to continue working together on future projects to redefine our sector.”

The last few years have seen more and more major hotel brands enter the all-inclusive space, from Hilton to Marriott.

Hyatt, though, has had by far the biggest growth, centered on its ALG acquisition.

Sunscape has four resorts in Mexico, along with one in Puerto Plata and one on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao.
