      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Ghostbusters does an impressive job of standing on its own as a freewheeling, marvelously cast supernatural comedy -- even if it can't help but pale somewhat in comparison with the classic original.

Ralf_Wolf the jokes fell flat ... I expected sooo much more from pretty much everyone in this movie unfortunately the writing/directing let us all down and this will be a horrible mark on everyone involved Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/24/21 Full Review Gorptholemew T 🍀 5.0/10 Like a little idiot, I laughed every time Chris Hemsworth did something. This movie is not like awful Doesn't really do anything new and the visuals aren't really like that great just feels a little dry the comedy ether pretty giggle, worthy or really miss although the actors all have some pleasant chemistry. Grade C+ Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Gábor G Even such an excellent cast can't counterbalance such a cringy script. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Darryl S This movie just gave me a headache. Kristen Wiig's character is annoying, the special effects were better in the 1984 version. Chris Hemsworth is just dumb. I ceased to care about the storyline ( if there actually was one ). Not sure I even smiled, let alone laugh! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Gary H The movie was funny as a parody of Ghostbusters, but cannot really be taken seriously as part of the Ghostbusters franchise as the entire cast is made up from Saturday Night Live comedians. The movie does get some cameos which is great, but their roles do not align correctly with the Ghostbusters franchise either. If you like Saturday Night Live, their cast, or into comedy, then you will probably like this movie; however, if you're a die hard Ghostbusters fan, you will probably hate the movie. The movie is similar to many of the movies out their that kind of pokes fun at the original movie. My family and I did enjoy the movie, we thought it was funny. My wife didn't recognize the Saturday Night Live casting, but still thought it was funny. Overall, not a bad movie; just fun and silly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Robert P Having just watched Frozen Empire at the cinema I thought I'd give this another viewing. Only got through about 15 minutes the first time. You know what, this is pretty good. It's funny, it's got great effects, they actually bust ghosts, and fun characters. There's shades (nice pun, right) of borrowing from the first two but they dance a fine line between contrived and paying homage. I think this movie doesn't get the love it deserves. It does need to sit outside the main time-line, though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Catherine Scott Bitch Media Ghostbusters is fun, it's silly, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC News (Australia) The new Ghostbusters film is a smart, spectacular addition to the series. Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Soraya Nadia McDonald Andscape Frankly, if you're going to make a new Ghostbusters with a female foursome as the leads and you're facing a backlash from clanging dungeons of the woman-hating internet, it seems like it would make for an epic opportunity to troll them. Carney Washington Blade Ghostbusters offered a fresh and fun spin on the classic testosterone-fueled comedy and featured Chris Hemsworth as a dim-witted himbo, delightful cameos by cast members from the original movie, and a wonderful breakout performance by Kate McKinnon. Dec 21, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Instead of doing something memorable with the great chemistry we see from the cast, “Ghostbusters” settles for being another in a long line of mediocre 80’s movie remakes.
