Softball Earns 4-1 Win Over Georgetown On Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, RI- The Providence College softball team defeated the Georgetown Hoyas (13-29, 4-17 BIG EAST), 4-1, on Senior Day to earn the series win on Sunday, April 28 on Glay Field in Providence, RI The Friars improved to 20-21-1 overall and 10-11 in BIG EAST play.

GAME NOTES

-The Friars opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the second. Julia Renny (Syosset, NY) spearheaded the charge with a two-run double. Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) helped the cause as they each knocked in runs with RBI singles. Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.), Jacque Harrington (Bedford, NH), Eichten and Renny all made it home (4-0) in the second inning.

-The Hoyas countered with a run at the top of the fourth (4-1).

-Both teams were unable to score in the remaining innings. The Friars finished on top, 4-1.

Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, RI) pitched a complete game for the Friars. He faced 25 batters, recording four strikeouts while holding the Hoyas to just three hits and one earned run.

The Friars will finish their regular season home schedule when they host Ocean State rival, Brown University (16-21, 8-9 Ivy League) on Wednesday, May 1 on Glay Field in Providence, RI First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm For fans unable to attend, the match will be available to stream on FloSports.
