George Harrison – Living In The Material World

My copy seems to be missing a lyric booklet. Anyone else's copy also missing it?

A very good, full sound copy. I'm pleased with it, and of course Georges very sensitive and very personal songwriting, is a given.
Aside from that, does anyone know if this is a Capitol Records jacksonville pressing?

I second jtm 1967's comment. I love this original pressing and, like all the others, I have no desire to replace it. As for the music, it's imperative that the listener sits and absorbs this one. The detail of the vocal arrangements, instrumentation, the chord structures and the lyrics are worth it.
The 'quiet Beatle' (I can sense George rolling his eyes)....living up to the description, he remained mysteriously and quietly out of the limelight at the time of release but his messages were loud if only people would take the time to listen.

This is a fantastic mastering. All the weight of the original with improved clarity. My first copy was full of pops but the second was immaculate.

I don't have an original to compare to, but the sonics of this remaster sound very dull and muted, as if someone put a blanket on my speakers. It's like all the high end is missing

Not unlike All Things Must Pass in 2001, this is the best overall pressing / mastering of Living in the Material World. Unlike ATMP in 2001, this one has the bells and whistles. The 2 added B-Sides to Side 2 balances the ratio of slow and uptempo songs much better. Bob Ludwig master is amazing. . The full booklet of lyrics and pictures is also top notch.

That pressing does not sound so good … my cd remasters sounds better and I guess an original uk would be even better

This is a great pressing, quality packaging with the laminated gatefold and insert and still priced far below what it will become down the line. I like this Harrison lp better than all things must pass which is saying a lot!

Not nearly as muddy as the mix on digital formats and actually sounds pretty good. Songs are sadly middling compared to All Things Must Pass, and lacking in strong guitar solos, but mediocre George is still empirically pretty awesome (it’s a scientific fact).

Although Harrison was very busy with the Concert for Bangladesh between the years from All Things Must Pass to Living in the Material World, this was nevertheless a very anticipated studio album, with Harrison establishing in 1970 that he was as worthy of the name "Beatle" as much as Lennon or McCartney. Unlike the principal two, All Things... showed the world that when George was allowed to go off on his own he could bring form and beauty to music in ways no others could. And fortunately for those waiting for his next album, All Things... gave us 3 LPs of music - enough to get them through the next few years before Material World dropped in 1973. It's a more introspective album, focused greatly on his spiritualism and his place in the world of celebrities. It also has a more direct, focused sound, and feels much more like an album from the '70s than the '60s. Everything on it is tight, tight, tight- even the looser bits. It's a terribly well-orchestrated album, and a joy to sit back and get sucked into. As a pop album, it is less "catchy" than All Things..., but here George is trying to tell us more of a story of where he is now. It's way less focused on making radio-friendly hits and instead serves as a musical chapter of his life in that moment. I don't usually care for rock gods singing about their own search for god, but George does it so well and in his own unmistakable way.
