Enzymes in dementia: EU awards around 2.5 Million euros for german research project
Markus Zweckstetter, research group leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) Göttingen and at our institute, has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant. He will use the approximately 2.5 million euros to research the biomolecular mechanisms involved in Alzheimer’s disease. (Press release by the DZNE)
Light into the darkness of photosynthesis
Plant photosynthesis is essential for life on Earth. Researchers from Göttingen and Hannover now succeeded in visualizing the copying machine of chloroplasts, the RNA polymerase PEP, in high-resolution 3D for the first time. The snapshot provides new insights into the function and evolution of this cellular machine, which is essential for photosynthesis.
A new building block for understanding Alzheimer's
Lipids play an important role in the development of Alzheimer's dementia. However, more details about this process were previously unknown. Scientists from Göttingen, Jülich, and Düsseldorf have now determined the atomic structures of lipid-fibril complexes for the first time. (in German)
