Default Martins with short-scale neck?

Is there any way to find out which Martin guitars have short-scale necks without clicking on the specs for each and every one?

Can't say for certain, but I read that historically all 14 fret 000s above 000-17 are short scale, and the 000-17 went to short scale in 2017. So 000-17 (2017+), 000-18, 000-28, and 000-42 are all short scale.

Interestingly, the 12 fret Martins are all long scale.

Actually, there’re at least a couple of 12 fret Martins that are short scale. I know the 00-18H Geoff Muldaur and the Norman Blake 000-18 and 000-28 signatures are also short scale to go with their 12 fret spec. Maybe Martin just does this with signatures though, but I don’t know.

Traditionally, only 12 fret 000 and D guitars are 25.4 scale and all smaller sizes are short scale.

No. There are so many variations and minimal standardization without looking, and asking, there will be times you are assuming.

Yeah, you're right. There are a couple of signature models that are short scale 12 fret.

OP, while the thread has given you some starting points, you will probably agree that in the end, you will have to look at the stats.

Music Villa has ordered some 0000-18 with the Authentic top thickness and bracing that are short scale, I have one and it's one of the best sounding fingerstyle Martins I've ever played. I could have paid 3 times the money for it and still been just as happy with the instrument! Sorry I know that doesn't answer your question but its a solid recommendation!

The 0, 00, and 000 are short scale unless they are some kind of special order.

The OM, D, J, M are all long scale unless a special order.

At least that is my understanding.

To clarify, the 14-fret 0, 00, and 000 in the Standard Series are short scale. In 12-fret models, I believe the 000 is historically standard scale (the OM was a modification of the 12-fret 000). Smaller 12-fret models are typically short-scale, but for some reason 12-fret 00s in Style 45 were standard scale, at least in the 1960s and 1970s.

It would be nice if Martin published a table like the one that used to be in the old catalogs.
