Actress Geena Davis and her fourth husband, pediatric plastic surgeon Dr. Reza Jarrahy, have finally ended their 17-year marriage after nearly five years of bitterly contested divorce proceedings, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
The couple separated in the summer of 2017, when Davis kicked Jarrahy out of their five-bedroom mansion in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
According to a source, Jarrahy wanted to end the marriage through mediation, dividing their assets and sharing child custody equally. The couple has three children, a daughter, 19, and 17-year-old twin boys.
But the source said the 65-year-old “Thelma and Louise” star told her 50-year-old husband “to lawyer up,” as she took the position that they were never actually legally married and therefore there would be no division of any of their property.
Terms of the deal remain confidential, but the source said, “They were very unfavorable to Reza, who agreed to settle just to put this behind him and be free of the nightmare Geena has caused for him.”
“Reza has had enough of her narcissism,” the source adds, “so he was willing to take a bad deal just to make her go away and refocus on the kids.”
“This has been devastating for Reza,” said the source, adding, “Geena’s priorities since day one have been to preserve her lifestyle and wealth above anything else.”
The source says the couple have collectively spent well over $1.5 million in legal fees, which the source says was an astronomical amount just for the judge to rule on the validity of their marriage. “All money that could have and should have stayed in the family for their kids’ futures,” said the source.
“The legal fees drove Reza to the brink of bankruptcy,” the source continued. “For months on end he had to sleep on friends’ couches, in their spare rooms, and even in his car at times in order to keep up with payments to his lawyer.
“He couldn’t have his kids with him while living like that, and it broke his heart … Meanwhile Geena continued to live in their Palisades mansion with the kids, oblivious to the pain she was causing her family. Her lifestyle didn’t change a bit.”
The “A League of Their Own” actress recently sold the couple’s Pacific Palisades home for $5.6 million, none of which she shared with her ex due to her claim that the house was hers and they were not married.
The custody terms are also being held confidential.
The source added, “Geena showed time and time again that behind her wealth and lifestyle, her next most important priority has been her public image.”
Lawyers and reps for Davis and an attorney for Jarrahy didn’t immediately get back to us.
Davis — who married Jarrahy in the Hamptons in September 2001 — had earlier testified to the judge that she did not believe she was ever legally married to Jarrahy, who filed for divorce from her in 2018, even though a video of the ceremony shows her vowing to love him as her husband until death.
Testifying in Los Angeles Superior Court, the Oscar-winning actress said the former couple never obtained a marriage license and were married by his father, who she insisted was not qualified under New York law to marry the couple.
But Iranian American Jarrahy insisted his father was a legal officiant under Islamic law.
It was also reported that during depositions in the case, Davis claimed she lied to Oprah Winfrey when she talked about her marriage to the Queen of Media.
TMZ reported Reza’s lawyer had asked Davis, “You bragged about your marriage to Reza and what a great husband he was, correct? … You lied to Oprah?” She responded, “Yes.”
Geena also conceded she had hired a wedding planner, caterers, and even had a Catholic priest participate in the ceremony as they exchanged vows and rings.
Plus Davis, who was previously married to Jeff Goldblum, director Renny Harlin and restaurant manager Richard Emmolo, told Good Housekeeping in 2006 that her fourth marriage would be her final one.
“I did say to Reza, ‘You’re about to become someone’s fourth husband. What on Earth are you thinking?’ But as for myself, I wasn’t nervous at all,” she said. “I really did feel that I had turned a corner, that I had pulled off changes that were real and permanent.”
