Downtown Cleanup Project Taking Place on Earth Day

(Gaylord) – White Birch Outfitters is spearheading an Earth Day cleanup project in downtown Gaylord on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 3:30 until approximately 5:30 p.m. Downtown business owners and employees, along with members of the community and guests to our area, are invited to help with this project.

“We love our downtown as much as we love our natural resources like lakes and trails,” commented Casey Buckleitner, owner of White Birch Outfitters. “Each year, we coordinate a cleanup project to help take care of some of our recreational assets and keep them in the best condition for everyone to enjoy.”

Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to be at the kickoff under the Pavilion on Court Street at 3:30 p.m. for directions and supplies. Those unable to help for the full duration can come at any time to pitch in. “We’ll have everything you need for this cleanup project. Just stop by and donate whatever time you can,” Buckleitner said. “You’ll see people cleaning all over downtown, so feel free to just jump in.”

Prizes obtained through members of the Downtown Merchants Association (DMA) will also be given out for certain categories, such as the most waste collected and most unique item found. “Cleanup projects are rewarding and can be a great deal of fun,” said Linda Durrant, DMA Chairperson. “The DMA wanted to add some extra incentive for people to take part in this event that helps beautify our downtown.”

The DMA is a group of actively involved business partners who strive to enhance the downtown experience for shoppers, diners, locals and visitors alike. The DMA regularly hosts events in downtown Gaylord, which can be found at www.facebook.com/downtowngaylord
