    One of India's many wonders
It was a little hot but definitely worth going.. They have photographers around to click your pictures.. Should get one for your travel board. Do take worli sea link to reach there. The drive is worth it.

    Beauty and grandeur!
Should be a must visit in your bucket list! An iconic place to visit in Mumbai, it’s grandeur is daunting and a treat to your eyes! We visited during early monsoon and it was just the perfect time to visit I felt, with light showers now and then! You can take a ferry to take a look at the Arabian Sea or even visit the Elephanta caves from here. There are many photographers around who give instant hard copies of your memories and even transfer the digital copy to your phone!

It is iconic, very busy and chaotic but I was not blown away!
It is iconic and you must see it but in all honesty, it didn't WOW me. There seems to be permanent renovations going on around the structure which obstructs a lot of it. The area is very busy and crowded so keep bags safe. Walk around it, take it in, take your photographs and then go. When you enter, if you have large bags or a camera, you need to go through security or otherwise you can just go straight in. We went around noon on a Saturday afternoon when it was very busy and hot. The roads around it are chaotic and noisy! What you can see from there, is lovely views of the heritage hotel, the Taj Mahal Palace. This to me, was more stunning and I loved the architecture!

One of the best monuments of India
Majority of Mumbai visits are one day visits & exclusively for office work or to catch international flights But whenever we get time, I do not miss Gateway of India. It’s always wonderful to see this monument. Will come again!

    The Focal Point of Mumbai
This imposing triumphal arch was built to commemorate the visit of King George V when India was still part of the British Empire. The monument looks like a European style triumphal arch to an Indo-Islamic design, especially the North Indian style of stone lattice windows and Pre-Mughal brackets, fort gates and towers. Also looks amazing like up at night.

    Quick visit to Mumbai
Stayed in Churchgate area at Sea Green hotel for two nights. Good location for Gateway of India and getting to Elephanta Island. 25 minswalk to the CSMT train station from hotel. There is always a taxi available. Please note the constant noise of car horns beeping. Mumbai is a very noisy city. As a mature female solo traveller I felt safe.

    Worth the effort
One of the places we wanted to see on our recent trip, well worth the effort. Although my wife became one of the attractions as people wanted to take a picture with her ( this does happen a lot in some parts of India!!) 😊 it was quite busy with the ubiquitous soundtrack of vehicle horns blaring incessantly.

    Just an old monument
It gets very hot during the daytime in summers as the Indian summer of Mumbai is unbearable. Evening is very pleasant with the cold winds coming off the sea. It's an old monument and has a barricaded entry for the area around the monument itself. The entry to the monument is restricted though.

Take a boat to Elephanta Caves, and on your return marvel at the view of Gateway of India, sitting proudly next to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Bombay was my favorite city growing up. Then it became Mumbai, and eventually lost the charm. But, its monuments stayed, including Gateway of India.

I have now visited it couple of times in last 10 years, on 2014 and recently. If it wasnt disappointing already in 2014 with ugly tarps covering it, ugly barricades surrounding it (contrast to my childhood memories of a beautiful, open space)… it was worse this time with same issue, and herding of people thru a crowded narrow entrance complete with pointless metal detectors. It was one place I chose not to photograph properly (only so much to avoid the tarp and barricades… what was I going to?

Sad to see a wonderful city, and its monuments getting destroyed, losing the old charm (from Fort area, to Chaupati), even Juhu Beach where I spent a lot of my childhood.

Spent a couple of hours here , the Monument is quite spectacular and at times quite overpowering and emotional.
We watched the boats coming in and out of the harbour as well as people watching .
It is free to enter, but you are constantly pestered by hawkers wanting to take your photo and the surrounding area is very unpleasant and the only time we felt uncomfortable during our stay in Mumbai.
However well worth a visit.

The Gateway of India, a majestic landmark in Mumbai, attracts visitors with its historical charm, but the experience is tempered by the weekend crowds. The bustling atmosphere, coupled with ongoing construction, can diminish the tranquility of the visit. Despite this, the option to embark on boat rides to the Elephanta Caves adds an adventurous touch, offering a blend of history and exploration for those willing to navigate through the lively surroundings.

Located on the waterfront of Mumbai. A large open area, the doesn't get very crowded. On a hot sunny day take an umbrella as there is no shade, Worth a look at up close.
