Another hilarious and moving novel from David Walliams, number one bestseller and fastest growing children’s author in the country.
A story of prejudice and acceptance, funny lists and silly words, this new book has all the hallmarks of David’s previous bestsellers.

Our hero Ben is bored beyond belief after he is made to stay at his grandma’s house. She’s the boringest grandma ever: all she wants to do is to play Scrabble, and eat cabbage soup. But there are two things Ben doesn’t know about his grandma.

1) She was once an international jewel thief.

2) All her life, she has been plotting to steal the Crown Jewels, and now she needs Ben’s help…

If your little people have lost a parent to cancer. This is not the book for them.

If your little people have lost a parent to cancer. This is not the book for them.
I read this book because it was read to my Grandaughter's year 4 class of 8 and 9 year olds. It really upset my grandaughyer who had the year before watched her mother die of cancer. It was way too close to my grandaughters reality. What starts off a hillarious story. Transitions to Granny telling Ben her grandson of 11, that she has cancer and it is advanced. That she won’t make Christmas. Then there is a chapter where Ben and his parents sit with Granny when she dies. “Ben simply held Granny’s hand. He didn’t want her to slip away into the darkness alone. They listened to her raspy breathing. It was a horrible sound. But there was only one sound worse. Silence. That would mean she was gone.”Then there was the funeral as well.I am conflicted. We do need to talk about death and dying more..... If a child hadn’t just been through a very similar circumstance, a child whose mother didn't die of cancer, it may be a good book. But way too much out of the blue in a book that had been funny at the start and didn't cary any warning about the sensitivity at the end...

I liked the granny who turned into a master criminal with her grandson. The best chapter in the entire book of Gangsta Granny is Postscript or something like that.I really liked this book because David Williams created awesome characters with his great imagination.I thought the end was sad because the Gangsta granny dies in her bed. She also likes to eat a soup her grandson doesn't like.

I'm a little older for this book, but had to read it being a fan of the author! Glad I did, what a wonderful story with a touch of silliness, sadness, but yet ending on a positive note. Made me wish I had spent more time with my grandparents, although I did get some great stories from my grandfather before his passing. Its an adventure story, a family story, and a love story. Read it to your children, read it yourself!

My six year old granddaughter loved this book. No problem getting her to read before bed.it seems to have clicked that reading is fun rather than a chore which must be done.
