Gaby Dellal

After a decade spent trying to kick off an acting career, and another decade estranged from the screen altogether, Gaby Dellal finally found her calling as a director and screenwriter. Anthology projects and short films padded the early days of her directing period, but Dellal soon enough found her voice with feature-length movies like "On a Clear Day" (2005), "Angels Crest" (2011), and "About Ray" (2015). Gaby Dellal was born in 1961 in London, England. Dellal spent the bulk of the 1980s exploring an acting career, appearing in films like "Zina" (1985) and on television series including "Hard Cases" (Central Independent Television 1988-89). After evading the call of the screen throughout the run of the following decade, Dellal pioneered a career in directing and screenwriting with a segment in the anthology picture "Tube Tales" (1999). She followed this up with two shorts of her own, "Toy Boys" (1999) and "Football" (2001), before branching out into feature directing with the grand theft auto picture "The Ride" (2003). Dellal explored a variety of creative territories with her following endeavors. She veered comedic in her Sundance Film Festival premiere "On a Clear Day" (2005), and leaned more dramatic in the kidnapping story "Angels Crest" (2011). Several years later, Dellal boosted her profile with her Toronto International Film Festival debut "About Ray" (2015), a story about a transgender teen boy. The film, which marked Dellal's feature-length screenwriting debut, boasted a star-studded cast including Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, and Elle Fanning.
