‘Massive’: Bent makes claim about Gabriel Martinelli’s contract after Arsenal’s January deals

Darren Bent thinks Gabriel Martinelli signing a new contract at Arsenal will be ‘massive’ after Mikel Arteta’s made his squad ‘stronger’ during the January transfer window.

Whilst all the talk for Arsenal was about Mykhailo Mudryk moving to the Emirates last month, added to the disappointment of missing out on Moises Caicedo.

At the end of it all, the club’s dealings ended in a healthy fashion, with Leandro Trossard joining from Brighton, centre-back Jakub Kiwior and the deadline day arrival of Jorginho.

It brings a new lease of life to the Premier League leaders, who are going o need it during the next nerve-racking few months of football.

But things could get better, with rumours that Martinelli has signed a new deal until 2027.

That was touched upon by former Premier League striker, and boyhood Arsenal fan, Darren Bent, when discussing Arsenal’s window, as he told talkSPORT (31/01/23).

“Ours was decent, we had targets,” said Bent. “When you look at the body of work that they have done. They tried to get Mudryk, but it didn’t happen.

“But when you get Trossard, who is a very good player. Jorginho, then there is the centre-half as well. You look at them two, Jorginho and Trossard, two very good signings. It makes the squad stronger. Very strong.

“Then Martinelli, signing that new contract. Massive.”

MARTINELLI’S GROWTH

From that fresh-faced teenager that was plucked out of Brazil’s lower leagues by Edu Gaspar to the ever-progressing 21-year-old that could win the Premier League title in a few months.

The rise of Martinelli during these past 18 months under Mikel Arteta’s stewardship has been outstanding.

The Brazil International has seven goals from his 19 Premier League games and there’s no reason why he can hit double figures in the league for the first time in his career.
