Capitalizing on the success of their iconic debut, Appetite for Destruction, GN’R Lies was released as the second Guns N’ Roses album on November 29, 1988. Although it was treated as a studio album upon its release, GN’R Lies is a compilation—incorporating the 1986 Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide EP (tracks 1-4), and four lyrically polarising acoustic songs (tracks 5-8).
These songs serve as an introduction to the band’s roots and biggest influences, of which three are covers: Hollywood Rose’s “Reckless Life,” Rose Tattoo’s “Nice Boys,” and Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin.”
