Kissinger Prize for Federal President Steinmeier

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was presented with the Henry A. Kissinger Prize on 16 November in New York. In his speech upon acceptance of the award he pointed out: "In my opinion, striving for international cooperation, establishing common rules, pursuing dialogue between different-minded parties, and seeking to establish partnerships is not a question of style. It is a question of survival."

Federal President Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender talk to young adults about challenges of their generation during an official visit to the Republic of Korea.

Official visit to South Korea

Federal President Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender travelled to the Republic of Korea for an official visit from 3 to 6 November. In Seoul, the Federal President had talks with President Yoon Suk-yeol and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. Furthermore, he had meetings with German and South Korean businesses and a dialogue on the challenges facing ageing societies. In Busan, the Federal President visited the IBS Center for Climate Physics and the new container terminal, as well as the world’s only UN Memorial Cemetery.

Climate discussion at Doshisha University in Kyoto

During his visit to Japan, Federal President Steinmeier opened a discussion with experts on climate change at Doshisha University in Kyoto with a speech on 3 November: "Climate change and biodiversity loss are progressing even more rapidly than was originally feared [...] The spirit of Kyoto must live on – we must not fall behind on implementation, despite the many crises. Rather, we must go even further."

"Strengthening everything that connects us"

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier gave an address to the nation on 28 October: "I believe that this moment of crisis must first of all be a moment of self-affirmation for us. Let there be no doubt in our minds that what makes us, at our core, will endure. [...] It is probable that we will not be able to drive forward our country’s success story at the same pace that we have done over the last three decades. The essential is becoming important once again, and it deserves all of our effort."
