Everything about Paris-Reims!

History, what's at stake and the keys to the match! Take a look at everything you need to know before kick-off between Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims at the Parc des Princes on Sunday 29 January at 20:45.

A BIT OF HISTORY...

Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims have faced each other on 31 occasions in competitive football, with the history books favouring Les Rouge et Bleu: Paris have won 15, drawn 8 and lost 8.

In the 1970s, Reims liked to tourment the club from the capital: the club from the Champagne region are still one of the only French teams (with Nantes in 1970-1971 and Nancy in 1984-1985) to have beaten Les Parisiens having scored six goals (6-1, on 9 August 1974, in the league) with the six goals scored by Carlos Bianchi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain three years later.

Edinson Cavani is Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer against Reims, with 7 goals scored. He sits ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, François M’Pelé (5 goals) and Kylian Mbappé (4 goals) in the standings.

It's worth noting that Stade de Reims' Algerian defender, Aissa Mandi, is the only player to have scored two goals for Paris with his double own-goal on 5 April 2014 at the Parc des Princes (3-0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain).

17 players have worn the shirts of both clubs: Manuel Abreu, Carlos Bianchi, Grégory Bourillon, Bernard Bureau, François Calderaro, Jean-François Charbonnier, Antoine Conte, Amara Diané, Hugo Ekitike, Antoine Garceran, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Dominique Lokoli, David N'Gog, Richard Niederbacher, Alain Polaniok, Younousse Sankharé and Siaka Tiéné.

WHAT's a stake..

Despite the defeat at Rennes (0-1) last time out in the league, Paris remain top of the table and still in the running to complete a new record: finishing the season having been top of the Ligue 1 for all 38 matches, something that has never been achieved in the history of French football.

Paris Saint-Germain are on a 21-match unbeaten run in competitive matches at the Parc des Princes (17 wins and 4 draws). N.B: this run began after Les Parisiens were knocked out of the cup by Nice on penalties last year (0-0, 5-6 on penalties, on 31 January 2022).

Paris remain on a 31-match unbeaten run in the league (27 wins and 4 draws) at the Parc des Princes. Les Rouge et Bleu's last defeat dates back to 3 April 2021 and the match against Lille (0-1). The club record is 41 matches unbeaten, from 20 March 2016 (Monaco, 0-2) until 12 May 2018 (Rennes, 0-2).

the keys to the match

Kylian Mbappé now boasts 196 goals for the club from the capital, after becoming the first Paris Saint-Germain player to score five goals in one game on Monday in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France against Pays de Cassel (7-0). The Paris Saint-Germain striker is just four goals away from the record held by Edinson Cavani (200 goals in total for El Matador).

Achraf Hakimi could make his 50th Ligue 1 appearance since arriving in the capital.

Paris Saint-Germain are back at the Parc des Princes and the nets could get a work-out! Since 1 December 2021 and a 0-0 draw with Nice who at the time were coached by... Christophe Galtier, the Paris Saint-Germain forwards have scored at least one goal in every league outing, a run of 20 matches (53 goals in total).

Paris Saint-Germain haven't conceded a goal against Reims in their last six outings (3-0 in the Coupe de France on 22/01/2020, 2-0 in the league on 27/09/2020, 4-0 in the league on 16/05/2021, 2-0 in the league on 29/08/2021, 4-0 in the league on 23/02/2022, and 0-0 on 8 October in L1), that's a total of 540 minutes. The club record is 6 consecutive clean sheets against Le Havre (1993-1995, 639 minutes), then Rennes (2015-2017, 628 minutes), Metz (2001-2004, 622 minutes), Lille (1990-1993, 605 minutes) and Bastia (2015-2017, 541 minutes).
