HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A back-and-forth battle throughout the day Wednesday saw the home side take the lead in the bottom of sixth, as Fordham University Softball fell in a close game on the road 7-6 at Hofstra.

The Rams would each tally runs in each of the first four innings, led by a 4-for-4 day by Neleh Nogay who would come around to score for the first run of the day as the Rams tallied a pair in the first inning, before the Pride added a single run to make it 2-1 after one.

Fordham would score one more in the second and two more in the third to open a four-run advantage, but once again Hofstra countered, tallying two runs as well to keep it a two score game through three. Adding one more run in the fourth, Fordham would take a 6-3 lead before the Pride tallied one run in the fourth and a pair of home runs in the fifth tied things up at six-all, before Hofstra took its first lead of the day with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Nogay's four hits would lead the team as she also drew a walk, ahead of a trio of Rams with two hits apiece, including Nicki Sudall who would be the only Ram with multiple RBI's Wednesday afternoon. Allie Clark would also tally two hits along with an RBI, while six different Rams came around to score on the day.

Fordham didn't take long to get on the board, using a Sudall single from the cleanup spot to score Nogay and tally the first run of the day, before Ayala drove a single to the left side with the bases loaded to score Sudall and give her side a 2-0 lead in their first turn at-bat.

After getting a run back in the bottom of the inning, the Rams would counter quickly with a second Sudall single in as many innings to take a 3-1 lead, before using a pair of base hits by Kate McGuire and Nogay in succession to break open a four-run lead midway through the third. Hofstra would keep themselves in the fight in their next plate appearance, scoring two in the bottom of the inning to keep the deficit at two.

From there Fordham would score a run for the fourth straight inning to start the day, taking a 6-3 lead, before three straight runs by Hofstra in the next two innings would tie the game at six with a pair of solo home runs. The Pride would tack on the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to lead 7-6 heading into the final frame, where they would close out the victory, despite the Rams putting a pair of runners on in the seventh.

Following the trip to Long Island, the Rams will return home for senior weekend at Bahoshy Field, hosting Saint Louis in the penultimate series of the regular season. The Rams will play a doubleheader with the Billikens Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with the senior day ceremony set to take place between games one and two.
