Women’s Tennis Opens A-10 Championship with Win over George Mason

Orlando, Fla. – The Fordham University women's tennis team got its Atlantic 10 title defense off to a solid start with a 4-0 win over George Mason University in the first round of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship at the USTA National Campus.

Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches. Xiaowei "Rose" Hu and Eleni Fasoula got it started with a 6-0 win over George Mason's Cenan Liu and Dana Edson at second doubles and then Raffaela Alhach and Anlin Xie clinched the point for the Rams with a 6-2 win at first doubles over Emily Wirt and Jenin Alasadi.
 
The Rams then took the first three completed singles matches, all in straight sets, for the 4-0 win. Hu was the first singles winner for Fordham, defeating Ruju Chauhan, 6-0, 6-1, and Xintong "Cindy" Zhou followed with a 6-0, 6-1, decision over Lauren Splett at the fifth position.
 
Franny Shea clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Dana Edson at sixth singles.
