      Critics Consensus

Gentle, deeply felt, and strikingly original, For Those in Peril serves as a powerful calling card for first-time writer-director Paul Wright.

Audience Member Take a simple concept and make it artsy, disjointed and full of flashbacks. That's basically what this film is. Moody, broody. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member In contrast to Birdman, this Scottish indy film presents an almost entirely believable descent into madness. Beautifully filmed and performed, it's painful and beautiful. Not quite Breaking the Waves, but up there somewhere. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Very slow. Dull. Shocked that it's gotten great reviews. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review waleed a stopped it after 15 minutes. just a lot of slow weird boring garbageness (0.17 views) Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Mesmerizing. A truly subjective film without much mercy for anyone. Incredibly atmospheric and sad. Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times The haunting and powerful psychodrama "For Those in Peril" marks an auspicious feature debut for its visionary writer-director, Paul Wright. Oct 2, 2014 Full Review Charles Gant Variety Wright's strongest achievement here is an evocative depiction of place, where young teens flee from adult supervision and danger lies in wait. Sep 29, 2014 Full Review Stephen Dalton Hollywood Reporter For Those in Peril is a strikingly original feature debut from the 31-year-old Scottish writer-director Paul Wright that resists simple categorization. Sep 29, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com For Those in Peril is effective as an allegory, its haunting fairy tale continually drummed into our skulls as the film moves along. Rated: 3/5 Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Stefan Pape CineVue For Those in Peril isn't afraid to take risks and is full of ingenuity, but at its core is an emotive piece about overcoming a death in the family. Rated: 4/5 Mar 5, 2019 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro There's an overuse of Super-8 flashbacks, too many broody close-ups, an abundance of inorganic colour-coded mood scenes, and a predictable late detour into horror mode.
