Synopsis

Marian Forrester, the talented soprano of a slightly screwball theatrical family, is engaged to the stalwart Harrison Beecher and is determined to live a quiet life. When her uncle Tony Masetti and aunt Louise join a road company, and her sister Gloria borrows the family savings, Marian is forced to postpone her wedding until the family is financially secure again. When Tony and Louise come back in the spring, they bring an entire troupe with them, including a handsome tenor named Michael Williams. Michael discovers Marian's talent and sells producer Joe Shelton on the idea of staging an operetta at the Forrester home and casting Marian as the lead. She refuses, but with Louise's help, Michael tricks her into performing on opening night. Once on stage, Marian's true spirit as a performer comes forth and she is a sensation. Now in love with Michael, Marian is torn between her promise to Harrison and the lure of the theater. Resigned to the marriage she had planned, Marian wistfully watches the troupe leave for the road tour. Harrison, knowing he has lost her, sends her away with Michael and the production company.

Although Hollywood Reporter production charts list Alison Skipworth in the cast, her appearance in the released film has not been determined. The Motion Picture Herald review called the film "one of the most costly features undertaken" by Republic.
