      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

While not without its nostalgic charms, Rob Reiner's sometimes awkward adaptation of Wendelin Van Draanen's childhood novel doesn't reach the heights of the director's earlier work like Stand By Me.

Elizabeth M While the film is not a complete carbon copy of the book, I think this film is one that stands the test of time. It gives insight on how both Bryce and Juli see the same situation. The characters face real world problems with Byrce's abusive and manipulative father, and Juli's family's money troubles and her uncle in a mental facility. This film is one of my personal favorites and makes me think back to a simpler time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Justin H It actually exceedingly adorable and romantic, I perpetually want it this type of subgenre of the movies that make smile face throughout the entire length of the movie, this has vibrant scenes within the film, it gives some inspiration and the wonders of love, nature, and loyalty the one thing I think it needs more storyline transmit, although the movie is very fantastic and good. I RECOMMEND TO WATCH IT 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Aarati J I ended up watching this film very randomly one day late at night so I went in without any expectations. The story is told in two perspectives throughout the film (for the most part) and although I usually find this style tedious, I think it really works well in this context, akin to the The Last Duel by Ridley Scott. This film really sucked me in as the script has a lot of heart and is full of both subtle and overt messages about childhood, parenthood, kindness and most of all, the importance of having character. It does all of this while convincing you it's a love story but really it's so much more. If you have adolescent kids, this movie is a great watch and a great conversation starter about the nuances of morals and values that sometimes go unchecked amidst the daily bustle of life. There isn't some huge climax in this film, but it delves meaningfully into the smaller things that impact us and shape who we'll become. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/08/24 Full Review Mary V Best novel to movie adaptation ever!! They should have received many more awards & nominations. I wished they would receive bigger profit with Box Office. The story and settings are so nostalgic. We see the depth, growth and maturity among characters over time. The story moved me from laughing to crying the whole time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Tristan T It definitely gets I few extra stars cuz It was one of my favorites growing up I liked it, it's not for everyone, I feel I liked it cuz I relate to the main character juli growing up poor and all that but it feels like a warm hug I really have nothing else to say, good film. Rated: 1.0/4.0 Sep 7, 2020 Full Review Megan Basham WORLD Though told in a somewhat cutesy, sock-hop style, Flipped works well as a film about character that entertains the tween/teen set without preaching at them.
