Fiyo on the Bayou, the second record from the Neville Brothers released in 1981, dedicated to their uncle, “Big Chief Jolly”) who had passed the previous year. The New Orleans’ brothers first appeared on an album produced by Allen Toussaint featuring The Wild Tchoupitoulas a group of Mardi Gras Indians led by their uncle. On Fiyo, they find their native style featured on Hey Pocky Way, the Meter’s classic, Brother John/Iko Iko (featuring Dr. John), Fire on the Bayou and a terrific cover of Jimmy Cliff’s Sitting in Limbo with Whitney Houston singing backing vocals. This is New Orleans funk at it’s best.
