Reviews
- George Martin initially wanted to record a live album at the Cavern Club to issue as the Beatles' debut album. He recognized the acoustics were less than ideal and made one of the greatest studio debut albums of all time. This is a very good live album in terms of energy, but being recorded in 1964 with substandard equipment at the Marquee Club it's not the greatest listen.
A vinyl reissue with more unearthed live recordings from the era, namely Honey In Your Hips, You Can't Judge A Book By Looking At The At The Cover, Let It Rock, I Wish You Would, and Who Do You Love will hopefully be made one day. There's also a version of Smokestack Lightning included on Having A Rave Up that was played after Got Love If You Want It they could include. - Listening to the Expanded CD at this moment on Ear Phones.. The energy level is over the top. In Mono, the way all
the 1960's Rock and Blues music should be listened to............................... - Edited 5 years agoIf you want the album speed - corrected and with the banter between songs intact, you need to get 2003 cd version put out by Duel 2000 which isn't included in the list above. It is hard to get though.
- My copy doesn't say 33 before the sx 1677 - does anyone have a similar copy or is it a completely different press?
- I have an original 1964 UK LP on Columbia. It's not a great album, but is quite the collector's item. I'm seeing $200+ pricing for the original, and mine is mint. And those pictures of the "Eric Clapton & the Yardbirds" album make me sick.
- Eric Clapton & the Yardbirds? Oh, please. There's not one solo on the LP, and Clapton only recorded maybe 4 or 5 studio tracks with what was Keith Relf's band. And give me Jeff Beck any day.
