This Detroit art and architectural gem should not be missed!
Opened in 1928, the Fisher Building is often called Detroit's largest art object. At 47 stories, it stands tall on West Grand Boulevard and its "golden tower" can be seen from miles away. Walk inside and the first thing you will see are the beautiful light fixtures topping the 3-story arcade. Look up and enjoy the beautiful barrel-vaulted ceilings. Walk the arcade to see the works of mosaic art and more! Stop for coffee, drop into the Blackbird Gallery to enjoy the art, or shop in local boutiques, including Pure Detroit, The Peacock Room, and Yama. This building also houses the Fisher Theatre, where you can see a touring Broadway production. A must-see site for those visiting Detroit for the first time!

    Elegant and Historic Building
While in Detroit, I got to visit the Fisher Building. It is a beautifully made skyscraper on the outside. However, the inside is even more impressive. The artwork and marble is exquisite. The building is home to the Fisher theater, various shops, and offices. Go check it out!!

Beautiful Art Deco Building in Detroit
Took a FREE tour (arranged through Pure Detroit) of the Fisher Building in Detroit, Michigan. Tour Guide (Jacob) was excellent - very personable and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Fisher brothers and the Building. Highly recommend this tour, which is free and operates on Saturdays.

    Premier art deco building
The Fisher building is considered to be the largest art object of Detroit, it is located on 3011 Grand Ave. in downtown Detroit. It was designed by Albert Khan in 1925, construction was completed in 1928.It was recently acquired by MSU(Michigan State University) and it is being currently rehabilitated. The building is open for tours on Saturdays only, but the arcade is accessible, with sumptuous frescoes, marble, light fixtures. Elevator doors is well worth the visit.

The Fisher Building is a piece of art to see in Detroit. We took a free tour of the best parts of the building by Pure Detroit. Just go to the Fisher Building site to sign up for the tour. The building has an amazing history. Our guide, Jacob, really has a passion for this building. You could see it in his presentation. So nice to see young people appreciate the history around them and wanting to share it with others. The story about the theater and it’s history of change was really unique. Tour took about an hour and well worth the time.

As you might expect, public access is limited to the lobby, but what an amazing lobby it is! Art Deco masterpiece. We spent about twenty minutes inside and taking photos. There's a private parking lot across the street in back of the building. Because we were there only a short while, the proprietor of the lot charged us only a dollar to park - what a deal!

This is one of the finest examples of art and architecture at its finest.

Go and tour this building. Sit in the coffee shop there and just drink in the surroundings. Actually, the 7 Fisher Brothers were the ones who closed in the automobile w/windows and a roof, which skyrocketed sales. They wanted to propel progress in Detroit and developed this amazing office complex, designed by Albert Kahn.

Did you know that the roof was actually gold? And, during the attack on Pearl Harbor the gold was removed because of the worry of the building getting bombed.

See the elevators. One in particular is exactly as it was back in the 30s with the little wooden elevator seat and wooden buttons. There is a tunnel that goes to the GM Building. Take in the mezzanine.

Check out the Art Deco walls and floors. There is a medallion on the floor which is now cordoned off to protect it. I am in this building quarterly and see something new every time.

There are stores and businesses there as well as the Fisher Theater. No entry fees. Restrooms, marble, are in the basement. The building is open 24 hours.

We took a tour of the Fisher Building on a recent trip to Detroit. Jacob was our guide and he was so knowledgeable and engaging. We learned all about the fascinating history of the building and how it was built. It is hard to believe that this tour was free!
I would love to come back and take another of the Pure Detroit tours.

A perfect example of the glory times of Detroit. The deperession has gone and a new start is visible. A very nice art-deco building that has been revitalized without loosing its unique character. The surrounding is also very promising, no-go area has turned into a must-see.

I visited the Fisher building with a friend this week, walking on the first and second floors as we looked for a place for a cup of tea. People were friendly but I was surprised how quiet City Center was. Lights are kept rather low in the hallways but that evening the lights were brightly illuminating the beautiful murals on the walls and ceiling when we returned for an evening at the theater.
There is a parking ramp adjacent to the building and theater. Parking is free if you have theater tickets. There are only a couple sit down restaurants that are walking distance.
