What is the International Baccalaureate Program
The International Baccalaureate Program at Firestone CLC (470 Castle Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44313) is one of the best programs in the area and is supported by the IB world organization. The benefits of being in the International Baccalaureate program are: stronger academic skills and content knowledge; better preparation for college-level classes to ensure a smoother transition to the post-secondary environment; attainment of college credits for some introductory courses; assessments that are better aligned with content skills and critical thinking skills; smaller learning communities; and exposure to a worldly perspective and global awareness. Credits earned through the IB program are accepted worldwide, and our students are going to some of the most prestigious universities and colleges in the world. For more information, contact Jennifer Beaven at 330.761.3270 or jbeaven@apslearns.org.

How to Apply
To apply to the program, you must be a current eighth-grader with a GPA at or above a 3.0. Students should be enrolled in Honors or higher-level core classes and be taking Algebra I and a world language (preferably Spanish or French). If you are an eighth-grader and have motivation to learn -- but are not in the honors, math or language classes -- please still apply. There are instances where academic accommodations have been made to help students who are motivated and driven toward rigorous academics. Lastly, if you are out of the Firestone cluster or out of the APS district, you will need to apply for open enrollment as well as to the IB program (we would love to accept all student applicants; but, if you live out of the cluster and do not apply for open enrollment, we can't guarantee you will be placed in the program).
