Tomori absence piles pressure on Milan in UEL battle with Roma in final 8 stage

Fikayo Tomori is a rock at the back for Milan and his absence in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie with Roma increases the pressure on the Rossoneri defence.

The 26-year-old Englishman missed nine consecutive Serie A matches through a hamstring injury at the start of this year, but has since returned to fitness and returned to being a key figure at the back for Stefano Pioli’s squad, starting their last four league outings.

Despite Tomori’s shining work with Milan over the last three years, he still hasn’t managed to break into Gareth Southgate’s England squad and isn’t expected to be part of the team for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

Tomori importance

As highlighted by Tuttosport via MilanNews.it, Tomori is a key figure in the Milan defence and they clearly suffer when he’s absent, conceding at least two goals in four of the nine matches he missed this term.

Since he returned from injury back in March, the Rossoneri have conceded just two goals in their last five league games. His absence against Roma will put extra pressure on his teammates in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.
