Eleanor Rigby how it should have sounded! Great live jams. The singer gets a little annoying. I love Sugarcane with Mayall on Archive to the 80's. I have another compiled two album CDof his that wasnt that great. No one today at all like Sugarcane. Well worth owning. I will continue to check out his few available releases just because.
This is a jam album, but no meandering 1970s affair.
This is a 70s show featuring Harris with the great and completely under recognized guitarist, Harvey Mandel.
Based on the blues, the numbers are long, but both soloists-Mandel turned down an invitation to replace Mick Taylor in the Stones and Harris played on "Gumbo Variations" on Zappa's Hot Rats-have such concentration, their long solos take on a classical grandness and architecture. Listen to the rework of the Beatles "Eleanore Rigby," which turns into a Hot Ratsish jam.
I'm Gonna Miss You".
This outstanding release features the aforementioned Harris' album Fidler on the Rock in its enterity as well as five of the eight songs recorded by Harris and Mandel's 1972 group Pure Food and Drug Act, included here as bonus tracks. We have chosen Till the Day I Die, A Little Soul Food, What Comes Around Goes Around And Eleanor Rigby (track 11)based on the prevalence of the violin on these tracks. The fifth bonus track, My Soul's on Firem doesn't feature the violin, but it's such a fantastic recording that we couldn't resist including it! _Final words cd liner notes by Eric H. Knier.
