  A towering figure in Brazilian music who, alongside Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento, spearheaded the hugely influential Tropicalia movement in the late 60s (Tropicalia devotees include David Byrne and Beck) before being exiled to London by the Brazilian military junta. Caetano is a hero in Brazil, albeit one among a plethora of extremely gifted singer-songwriters this country has produced. Accompanied by ‘Banda Cê’, the band that backed him on his 2006 album Cê and 2009’s Zii e Zie, they together breezed through a set of Musica Popular Brasileira infused with all the subtlety and nuance characteristic of all the best Brazilian music. The arrangements were rich, detailed and executed with consummate musicianship. Caetano played a moving solo version of London London, a tribute to the city that was his home for 3 years in the late 60s and early 70s, and a favourite of the crowd which numbered many Brazilians. It was refreshing to hear that over the years, his music hasn’t lost its slightly psychedelic pastiche-like edge, with sometimes abrupt breaks and forays into different tempos and moods. As they stood for the ovation, there was nothing but respect and warmth from the audience for this master and elder-statesman of Brazilian Popular Music.

• Caetano Emanuel Viana Telles Veloso better known simply as Caetano Veloso is one huge figure of Brazilian latino music. At the grand age of 72, he continues to tour globally as his discography of tropical sounds is simply so revered around the world that he believes it to be his duty to outreach to his loyal fanbase.

  The man has had an incredibly interesting life, from the very beginning of his musical career having been exiled from his homeland due to being considered a political threat. Therefore the audience is equally engaged when listening to the singer/songwriter talk between tracks as they are whilst he performs. He has a huge variety of stories and you imagine the crowd would have paid simply to watch him speak about his life and experiences. However this evening the spotlight is the hand selected psych gems of his discography which include 'A Bossa Nova é foda' and 'Baby'. Moving between languages, Veloso demonstrates musicianship, lyrical skill and great intelligence all at once tonight. A real class act.

• Caetano Velodo wasn't ther! The advertising was totally wrong. You announced Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. But neither of them came to agent a! The only artist we heard was Carla Visi. Nice lady, beautiful voice, but nothing to do with Caetano. This is called lie, isn't it? Or robbery? I'm sorry to tell you that a lot of us were very disappointed to be cheated like this yesterday night. Hope you'll do things better next time.

• Caetano's concert with Gilberto Gil in Amsterdam was quite possibly the best concert I've been to in my life. Two guys in their 70's with a guitar each. Nothing more, but that was all it took.
