Season 4 (2020)
Let’s be clear here: Even the worst season of Fargo is still pretty good. Season 4 had style to spare and was chock full of great supporting turns, like Jessie Buckley as murderous nurse Oraetta Mayflower and Glynn Turman as wise old mob consigliere Doctor Senator. But in telling a convoluted 1950s Kansas City gangster tale that was closer to the Coens’ Miller’s Crossing, it lost that distinctive Fargo feel. Plus, Chris Rock was an odd fit as crime boss Loy Cannon, and any narrative momentum was lost in a sea of overly wordy monologues. Even a fun post-credits scene in the finale that tied it back to Season 2 couldn’t keep this one from landing at the bottom of our list.
Season 2 is my second favorite season of any show ever made. My favorite season of any show is the second season of American crime. It was so hard to watch but I couldn’t look away.
Season 5 needs to be higher than #2.
And season 1 needs to be lower than #3.
Oh, fer cryin’ out loud! Season 1 had Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, and Bob Odenkirk, donchaknow. You betcha I’m sad about the downvotes!
I would rank the best seasons as one, two, four, three, and five, from best to worst. All were watchable, however.
This is exactly how I’d rank them. Season 2 is excellent, even on rewatch.
Chris Rock totally ruined season 4. Deserves to be on bottom
There was so much wrong about Season 4, let’s not blame it all on Chris Rock!
Every season was great but I can’t really argue with these rankings. Fargo is such a great show I hope it goes on for a while.
My list
#1- season 2
#2- season 1
#3- season 5
#4- season 3
#5- season 4
100% correct!
My favourite is still the first season because, being a huge Coen Brothers fan, it had all the nuance and quirkiness of the films. Plus it gave as Alison Tolman and a brilliant performance by Joey King. Although, I have to agree, trying to rank the five seasons of Fargo is truly an embarrassment of riches. You betcha!
Brilliant I whact all the serious!!! May it continue 🙏
Every season had great casts, performances and moments. I think it’s just easier to look at season 1, 2 and 5 as A+ quality and 3 & 4 as B+/A quality.
My list
1. Season 2
2. Season 1
3. Season 3 (the 1st half I was ify about but the 2nd half I thought was just amazing)
4. Season 5
5. Season 4 (sorry Jason I still love you and will watch everything you are in)
Any list that has either of the first two seasons not ranked in the top two is invalid and simply wrong. Season five was a massive improvement over three and four, but nowhere near as good as the first couple.
Perfect order! I wish I could rank Season 3 higher because I loved it. But it can’t go above the top 3, sadly.
Season 1 is so much better than Season 5
Exactly. Season 5 was an amazing surprise after Season 4 led us to believe Fargo would never be good again.
I think the rankings are about right, though I might could switch seasons one and five. Season one was really pretty flawless and set the tone nicely for the following seasons. Season five was also quite good but did have a few editing lapses and I weasn’t totally thrilled with the way they handled the Ole Munch character.
Regarding season four, though I agree it should be ranked last, I think we should give Noah credit for trying something different with that season, including setting it literally decades earlier than the other seasons. I actually enjoyed much about that season, including the realism with which they depicted life in the early 1950s – I just don’t think it was good as the other seasons.
Season 5 was well acted, but a bridge too far in terms of reality. How did Dot learn her skills? She didn’t even try asking anyone for help? The police were actively offering to help and she put her family at risk to go it alone. The husband was too stupid. Best thing were the scenes between Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Otherwise this was a season I didn’t enjoy as much. It also just wasn’t as funny – lost a lot of the quirky charm that makes this show great…same goes for Season 4.
My ranking from best to works would be 2, 1, 3, 4, 5.
Season 4 was awful! Confusing and boring. It deserved to be in the bottom. I couldn’t even watch the last three episodes.
I would Season 5 has number 1 and move Season 2 down to second. So disappointed in Season 4 it should be ranked 6th.
1.) Emmit and Ray in Season 3 are not twins. Emmit is two years older.
2.) Peggy in Season 2 is not a housewife. She makes money working in a salon.
3.) You rank Season 2 in first place for breaking the mold and diverting from the source material, but you rank Season 4 in last place for doing the same thing?
Where to watch?????
1st = 2nd = 3rd then 4th and 5th.
First three seasons are almost equal for me.
The last one is the worst obviously! Just a trash.
4th is nothing to talk about.
two on set ‘fargo’ hook ups so far.
