      Critics Consensus

Fantasy Island's flights of fancy aren't quite formed enough to make it a must-watch, but viewers looking for beautiful vistas and a bit of mystery could do worse.

Bethany M I am southern & completely unimpressed with Kiara Barne's accent.... Every southern person can hear how fake it is. Otherwise it's in need of better writers.... I'm still giving it a chance for now but tittering on giving up after S1, 4th episode. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Alan M Failed revival of a classic 70's feel good tv show that takes itself to seriously and misses the point of the original & why people watched it. Rosalind Sanchez is a very good comedic actress but the writing and direction manages to remove that quality and is reflected in the rest of the show where instead of making you smile and forgetting your problems for an hour ends up leaving you flat. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Aidan L Throw it away, horrible tv. If you like this show your IQ isn't higher then 90 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/23 Full Review JTB This show has potential, but the way they've developed the characters is like a poorly done soap. It's all about the main characters, and their lives. It would be much more interesting if it delved more into the guests and their fantasies. Ruby's acting is terrible. She has a fake accent, and her acting is overplayed. I'm also not interested in her character. I didn't enjoy seeing her stay on the island, and then decide she's into women. Her character and her acting is cringy. She should be replaced with someone that can act, and with a more interesting character line. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Michael D Boring You think with all the special effects they can do nowadays they would have better fantasies Might as well watch the old one it's about the same Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member What audience is this silly drivel meant for? Apart from the lovely locales and some beautiful ladies, nothing here worth recommending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brian Lowry CNN.com The better question might be whether enough viewers are hungry for pristine beaches and bland nostalgia to turn what should be a quick summer visit into, in TV terms, an extended stay. Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Gwen Ihnat AV Club As each episode of Fantasy Island unfurls, it's clear that the possibilities at this particular retreat are truly limitless, which makes the series a tantalizing watch just to see what the island will come up with next. Rated: B Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune I'm convinced there's still a place for this genre on TV, even if it's only on broadcast networks, and I'm glad Fox took a gamble. But I also wonder if Hollywood is out of practice when it comes to the demands of self-contained storytelling. Rated: 2/4 Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv ... Simply dull. Sep 20, 2022 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media It's seductive and entertaining, and worth tuning into if you're just looking for something escapist to watch. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2021 Full Review Laura Wanberg Tell-Tale TV Though the [premiere] has some cons, it also has the pros of a great starting story and things to look forward to when it comes to Elena, Ruby, and the future guests they'll be dealing with.
