Men's Soccer Schedule Set for 2023

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A two-game home stand marks the start of the 2023 season for the Fairfield University men's soccer team as the Stags will play a 16-game slate that includes 10 teams that finished the season with a winning season. This year's opponents hail from America East, Ivy League, Northeast Conference (NEC), Patriot League as well as the annual 10-game slate against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). 

Head Coach Carl Rees and his side will open the campaign with a pair of home games beginning with Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, August 24. The Knights reached double figures in the win column last year with a 10-6-3 overall mark and an unbeaten record in NEC play (6-0-2). A few days later, Fairfield returns to Lessing Field for a match up with Bryant University, a member of America East.

The team makes its first road appearances of the 2023 season with a road trip to Brown University on Monday, September 4 before finishing the week on Saturday, September 9 with a trip to Colgate University. The two-game stretch makes up a third of the Stags' road games this season, playing seven away from campus this season. 

Fairfield begins a stretch over the next six games that alternates between home and away, starting the three-week period with a match against LIU at Lessing Field on September 13. The team transitions to the road on September 16  when it opens the MAAC portion of its schedule by heading south to Mount St. Mary's. On September 19th, Harvard University will comes to the Fairfield campus for the final non-conference match on September 19th game after posting an impressive 9-4-4 overall record and a 3-1-3 mark against Ivy League competition.

The Stags will take a trip to the Garden State on September 23 when they return to MAAC action against Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. Fairfield plays its lone afternoon game of the season by hosting Niagara University on September 30, a 1 pm kick off at Lessing Field. The team closes out its dates with the conference's upstate New York teams on October 7, traveling to Canisius College for a Saturday match.

Two home games come up next on the Stags' schedule as Manhattan College makes its way to Lessing Field on October 11, followed by a visit from Marist College on October 14. Both of those games are scheduled for a 7 pm start. A pair of road games sandwich one more home date for Fairfield with the trio of dates beginning at Siena College on October 18.

Fairfield returns home to host Iona University on October 21 before making its final road trip on October 25, a quick ride to Saint Peter's University for an afternoon match. The regular season comes to an end on November 1 with a home game against Quinnipiac University which is scheduled to start at 7 pm.

The Stags men's soccer team concluded the 2022 season with an 8-10-1 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in MAAC play. Fairfield made the 2023 MAAC Tournament, its third straight trip to the championship event. Raz Amir paced the Fairfield offense with a co-leading five goals and a team-best six assists for 16 points. Alex Oliviera also registered five goals to account for this 10 points for the season. James Anderson spent most of the time in the Fairfield goal, posting a 1.72 goals against average with 73 saves in his 18 appearances.
