Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is absolutely AMAZING! The location is right in the heart of beautiful Old Town with beautiful views and landscapes of hills of San Diego The hotel is in walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. My husband and I stayed here a couple of times and enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to bring our family to spend Christmas. It was an amazing 3 days, we will cherish the memories forever! We woke up every morning to a delicious hot breakfast and the best hospitality! My grandchildren couldn't wait for the fresh hot popcorn every evening, they knew when it was being popped because we could smell the aroma from our room. We can't say enough about Chris and the front office staff, they ALL are courteous, professional and willing to help wherever needed. We've found our New home away from home, can't wait until our next stay!

This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Old Town San Diego. It's also just a few miles from most other San Diego attractions and less than 2 miles from the airport. It's a quiet hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful and they have a free breakfast in the lobby every morning. The breakfast area can get pretty busy mid morning but there are several tables both inside and outside in the courtyard. Good choices for the breakfast too. Would definitely recommend this hotel! Parking at the hotel is $25/night. Nothing else is available except on street parking.

First time staying here, the layout of the hotel is fairly bizarre and when I eventually found the room it smelt so strong of smoke I opened the windows. The room was a good size and thankfully the smoke faded a little bit. Ten minutes walk into the old town where there are various bars and restaurants, the hyped up cafe coyote is definitely not worth the effort tho! Walking back just after 9pm felt pretty unsafe and there is no lighting at night in the side road or hotel walkway, pretty creepy tbh! The pool area was nice, ample free towels and sun beds. Friendly staff too. Next time I’d definitely stay somewhere more central tho

I didn’t read any reviews before staying here. There were several of us traveling for work and someone else booked this. If I had read the reviews prior, I’m not sure that I would have stayed. The staff was very accommodating to our group upon arrival. We were all able to check in early so we could put up our luggage before meeting with our group. I will say that the layout and room numbers can be very confusing. It took some of us more time than it should have to find our rooms. Mine was clean. I was a little concerned about the location because the door to the room was outside and it had two large windows that looked out onto a patio that went all the way around and I’m not sure who could access it. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. There was no USB ports so I wasn’t able to charge my phone. The location of the hotel was great, we walked to Old Towne for dinner and shopping. The check out experience was great. We all had to leave by 4am and they got all of our bills printed for us fast so we could be on our way to the airport.

The description for this hotel said it was newly renovated. That is false. This is the most dated Fairfield I’ve ever seen. The room was very dated, dirty and I could clearly hear the neighbors tv next door and the floor above squeaked every time they took a step. I've never written a poor review for a hotel, but after seeing how my concerns were handled, I was very frustrated. I actually left this hotel and stayed elsewhere. Would not recommend.

Response from Dvecchione, General Manager at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott San Diego Old Town

Dear aaronbD5224KT, Thank you so much for taking the time to review your recent stay. I am sorry we fell short in meeting your expectations. Our hotel was renovated last year and has the latest Fairfield room décor and finishes. I understand opinions can vary when it come to a new aesthetic and I guess the new color scheme and patterns are just not to your taste. I hope you will continue to stay at Fairfields in your travels and hope you will give us another chance in the future. Thank you again for your feedback.

When I saw the old Mission style building rustic , and close to old town , prefect for a getaway for a couple . Came in on Saturday , early check in , after talking to front desk , afraid of the road noise right outside the window , I say please , make sure we can get a room that is quiet . I was assured room 236 had no one complained. by far . Wrong. the worst room I had for a Long time.. elevator right out the door . Key card entrance to another hallway right outside the door . Noise all night plus the A/C comes on where we have to turn up the TV volume . They redeemed themselves second night by moving us to third floor, little balcony , beautiful room . So my advice , there are bad rooms that can ruin your night. Make sure you get a front desk clerk who is helpful . No bar on the premise but free Breakfast . I can say , clerks make a difference .

This hotel is located right at the edge of Old Town and was so conveniently located. The breakfast was great, had toast, coffee, tea, some fruit and hot items. Pool and hot bub was nice and the room was clean. The only reason I gave 4 stars was that the walls are super thin and you can hear everything in the halls and adjacent rooms.

Check in was easy, the women that checked me in was nice and accommodating, room was clean and modern, the room over looked the pool which was nice, beds were comfortable, in the check in area there were beverages and food available for purchase, in the morning there was free breakfast and checkout was not until 12. The only downfall was that parking was 25 dollars a night and I was not informed of this. Everything was walking distance. Food, store and it was located in old town san diego.

I can’t believe this place is a Marriott, pictures and price are totally deceiving, looks disgusting and area looks dangerous. Thank God we only stayed one night after a late flight arrival and used points . The front office cleric was very polite and offer us ‘free parking’ as courtesy due to how far our room was , I thought was included in such a high price for could only be categorized as a motel, at best

It is shameful to label this hotel as a Marriott. It is so run down. Paint peeling, room numbers taped on to doors, elevator not working, all around dirty and dingy. Nothing like the pictures. I changed rooms twice. The first time because the non- smoking room smelled like smoke. My second room was hidden without even a room number on it. When we returned after dinner, there were two guys outside my door smoking marijuana. The entire hallway reeked of marijuana. We complained to the front desk and were moved to our third room of our one night stay. Air conditioning woke us up every time it turned on. On a positive note, the beds and bedding were comfortable. However, in the parking garage we saw a stack of dirty mattresses. Made me wonder if our mattress was dirty too.
