      Critics Consensus

Admittedly vulgar and ludicrous, Fading Gigolo gets a decent amount of mileage out of the entertaining chemistry between its starring duo. Read critic reviews

This movie is really funny, and works thanks to great performances and a brilliant chemistry between its leads. I loved it :D

John Turturro writes, directs, and stars in the indie comedy Fading Gigolo. After receiving an unusual proposal, a financially struggling man gets talked into becoming a gigolo. Co-starring Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, and Vanessa Paradis, the casting is pretty good; as are their performances. Yet the story is rather pointless, and the characters aren't developed that much. There are some nice bits of comedy and a few poignant dramatic moments, but none of it's followed through on. Though Fading Gigolo tries to say something about human connection, the message is muddled and gets lost in the monotonous storytelling.

Despite its good moments - and there really are a handful of them, largely thanks to the presence of Woody Allen -, this average comedy is so harmless in many ways that even its sweet message about loneliness and connection gets diluted by how perfunctory the plot is.

I really enjoyed this comedy directed, written by and starring John Turturro, co-starring Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Paradis, and Liev Schreiber. I really have no explanation why it failed at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics. I really thought at some stage that this was Woody Allen's movie, because the story was just crazy enough to hve his stamp! Dr. Parker (Sharon Stone), a wealthy dermatologist, mentions to her patient Murray (Woody Allen) that she and a woman friend (Sofía Vergara) wish to experience a ménage à trois and asks if he knows a willing man. Of course Murray, who is Jewish, and whose used bookstore has failed, wants to take an advantage of this situation and he convinces his friend and former employee Fioravante (John Turturro) to take the gig, as both are short of money... Very light story actually had lots of substance under the surface, and Turturro really shows us a great skill to take stereotypical characters and to portray them in an offbeat and surprising way! I could not believe how funny those offbeat ways could be, and uniquely enjoyable at the same time. Refreshingly different but still comfortably familiar with Woody Allen giving one of his better performances! Enjoy the sweetness and its silliness.
