Interview: Anthony Fabian talks Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

In theaters this week is the excellent Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. Directed by Anthony Fabian, the film is a wonderfully charming tale of a widowed cleaning lady that longs to have a beautiful dress of her own. It’s such a sweet story. And it features marvelous performances from Lesley Manville, Lucas Bravo, as well as the legendary Isabelle Huppert. Based on the novel by Paul Gallico, the film is one well worth celebrating, and it’s easily one of my favorites so far this year. It may not have the big budget, popcorn flick, blockbuster summer movie vibe, but it’s the perfect fix for those looking for something a little special. It’s a joy of a movie (watch for our review soon).

We recently sat down with both Lesley Manville and Lucas Bravo who are utterly delightful. Then, we had the luxury of speaking with the film’s director, Anthony Fabian. Having made several independent features before, he opened up about how this film came his way. The filmmaker has done a superb job of telling this heartfelt story. It’s a lovely film that manages to explore serious subjects such as the class system, yet with an unpretentious sweetness to it all. Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris may not be the film you think of when it comes to summer blockbusters, but it’s the perfect cure for a happy escape from all the insanity in the world. Opening Friday, take someone you love.
